The Third Annual Chicago Motion Graphics Festival is hosting an intimate tour of the world of motion graphics and special effects. Occurring JANUARY 18-21 the festival will include screenings, tours and classes.
Works of international design excellence will be featured in a gallery-style format on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday evenings at leading downtown post-production companies. Two days of free classes will be held at the Apple Store on North Michigan Avenue and the School of the Art Institute will host two "Master's Classes" in popular motion graphics and special effects software.
The following day, "After Work Thursday" at the Apple Store will include a presentation of Xsan, Apple's fiber-optic file management system for professional post-production companies. Later Optimus, a company known for memorable industry events, will open its doors to a showcase of motion graphics artistry.
Friday night the screenings continue at Daily Planet and S2, both located in the NBC tower. There will be two floors of interactive art installations and flat-screen viewing stations. Commercials, music videos, and video art from over 30 global cities including Istanbul, Zurich and Stockholm, will be on display.
During the day on Friday the School of the Art Institute will host a class in "Broadcast Readiness" by Chicago's premier Apple pro-video integrator, Matt Geller. On Saturday, "After Effects Studio Techniques" will be presented by Richard Harrington, local celebrity and author of over 25 books on motion graphics.
Saturday night, the festival will conclude with CMGF's first-ever online event. An international audience will be able to participate in the 4-hour broadcast and live chat. The show will feature a festival recap and will be streaming from Mac Specialist in Glen Ellen.
Mason Dixon, founder of CMGF, comments, "We love what other festivals are doing around the world and that has definitely challenged CMGF to be different. This year will be a unique opportunity for creators and consumers to closely observe the most imaginative work being produced."
CMGF is the annual event of Design After Next and the Chicago Motion Graphics Users Group, which holds free monthly meetings at the North Michigan Apple Store.
