The techs told me that they've never seen anything like that when I booted it up, but they quickly determined that it was indeed a software problem. They were able to back up all of my data for me (actually, it's still backing up) and they're going to need to reformat my drive and I'll have to start from scratch.
I'm sure you have all experienced this sort of downtime. When you're freelancing it's especially tough when you can't make your deadlines. I worked at a post-house for ten years and when one of our computers went down, we could usually hop on another computer and get some work done.
I work from home and I'm using my husband's Gateway laptop, which is a cesspool of spyware and viruses. It's so weird to have to look at the keyboard to figure out how to cut and paste!
I've had my little lappy for almost 3 years and I've probably used it on average 10 hours per day every day since I've had it. It's been a little work horse. I think it may be time to let it live out it's last days as a strictly internet surfing and email box. Maybe a few games too.
So, next week when I have After Effects 7 installed and my Adobe Creative Suite 2 and everything that I need to work with, working for me, I'll be productive once again. I don't feel whole today. Not even half.
