  • 30 Filters & Transitions. Work more creatively.
  • Open CL and CUDA acceleration for supported graphics cards. Work even faster.

FX Browser™

The FX Browser™ can be accessed both in each individual filter and as a standalone to browse the entire BCC effects library. The built-in browsing history lets you keep track of your most recent searches. All effects play back over moving video in your timeline, not just a poster frame.

The Transition Group

BCC 9 delivers 23 new transitions to editors. You now have 30+ dissolves and wipes. (3x the amount of BCC 8!) Add Flutter Cuts, Blur and Glow dissolves, a retro Damaged TV dissolve, and much more to your arsenal. Animating your transitions just got better! Thanks to unique overlay curves showing you exactly where a wipe or dissolve starts and where the effect takes place in the transition. No keyframing needed!

The Film Group

BCC Vignette. Apply a soft camera lens or screen projection over your footage with added luminosity and defocus controls. BCC 2-Strip Color. Mimic the over-saturated Technicolor look of classic Hollywood Films.

The Image Restoration Group

BCC Magic Sharp.Be a hero by rescuing blurry footage. BCC Lens Correction.Get rid of the fish-eye warp produced by a wide angle camera lens - especially handy for all you GoPro camera users.

The Stylize Group

BCC Grunge and BCC Edge Grunge. Add grit, grim, and atmosphere to titles and clips within seconds.

The Keying and Composite Group

BCC Chromakey Studio.Your one stop shop. Junk mattes, green screen smoothing, final matte cleanups, pulling a perfect chroma key, light wraps, and color correcting - all in one powerful filter! No more layering filters upon filters!

The Lights Group

BCC Laser Beam. Engrave titles or trace-on effects onto your footage complete with fog and glows.

The Perspective Group

BCC Pan & Zoom. The ever-popular go-to for Avid users now rotates images in 3D! Plus, more cropping and adjustment options.

Performance speed-up

Open CL and CUDA Acceleration is now available for supported graphics cards. Popular filters such as Lens Blur, Film Glow or Film Process render 2X faster than before.

All filters take advantage of either multi-processing or OpenGL hardware acceleration for an interactive effects design experience.

Over 1,000 professionally-designed presets are included free with every installation of BCC. You can save and freely share your own presets and build customized preset collections tuned to the specific needs of a project. Both static and animated BCC presets are supported on the After Effects platform. Presets can be shared with matching BCC installations on any host application in which BCC is installed.

Via the Boris Transfer workflow utilities, BCC is the only plug-in collection that allows easy VFX migration between Adobe, Avid, and Apple video editing software – with parameters and keyframed information intact.  Boris Transfer AE allows you to transfer Avid or Final Cut Pro sequences to After Effects while Boris Transfer FCP gives you the ability to transfer sequences between Avid and Final Cut Pro.

New flicker reduction and videoscope tools, OpenGL hardware acceleration, 32-bit float support, deeper After Effects integration, and enhanced lens flares, particles, glows, and lights headline the new Version 8 release.

What's New in Continuum Complete 9.0.5:

This update includes restored support for the BCC Beat Reactor filter – note that this fix requires the latest After Effects CC 2015 host update (V13.5.1). Click here to read the release notes.

Windows 10 support:

  • BCC9.0.5 AE is certified as fully supporting the Windows 10 operating system.  Earlier versions of BCC 9 may likely work without problem in Windows 10, but BCC9.0.5 AE is the first version which is officially certified for Windows 10 support.

Feature Enhancements in BCC AE 9.0.5:

  • Restored support for the standalone Beat Reactor filter in AE CC 2015 – requires the latest AE CC 2015 host update (V13.5.1).

What's New in Continuum Complete 9.0.4:

Feature Enhancements in BCC AE 9.0.4:

  • Full support for the new plugin requirements in AE CC 2015.  See section below on AE CC 2015 Compatibility Notes for details.
  • Lens Flare 3D performance enhancements.
  • Chroma Key Studio enhancements
  • Performance improvements
  • New “Color from Cleaned Alpha” option enables an alternate color processing approach for edge regions.  This can reduce harsh colors that sometimes appear when Matte Cleanup or Matte Choker tools are used to expand the matte.

Bug Fixes In BCC AE 9.0.4:

  • FX Browser stability, especially when applied to precomps or adjustment layers in AE.
  • Fast Film Process stability on newer drivers.
  • Pan and Zoom stability on Mac when opening a project with a missing external file link that points to a network folder.
  • Motion Tracker stability when scrubbing the Tracker Time Offset.
  • Extruded Text and Type on Text stability on Mac when when using certain fonts with modifiers like Bold or Italic if the OS is set to a language other than English.
  • Mac installer – email field did not support long email addresses.
  • Invert – Mix with Original slider not working in float projects.
  • Chroma Key Studio – color pickers were incorrectly disabled when the Chroma Key group was turned off which made it awkward to resample the original screen color.
  • Chroma Key Studio – When ALL parameter groups are disabled it rendered black or random frame data.
  • Motion Tracker parameters and sometimes Motion Tracker analysis could be inadvertently reset after loading a filter preset.
  • 3D Objects filters – rendered BCC messages now give more accurate guidance when applying to 4k or higher rez footage concerning how to properly configure the 4k BCC Preferences options.
  • Mac main menu bar had incorrect entries when the BCC Preferences or Licensing window were open.

AE CC 2015 Compatibility Notes:

BCC 9.0.4 AE contains extensive revisions required to fully support the plugin API changes made by Adobe in After Effects CC 2015.  BCC 9.0.4 is fully compliant with the requirements of AE CC 2015, with the minor exception of the known issues outlined below.  (Note that versions of BCC prior to 9.0.4 are NOT compatible with AE CC 2015.)

The obsolete BCC Degrain filter (which has been replaced by the more modern BCC Noise Reduction filter) will continue to render any projects in which the grain samples were previously locked.  However Degrain will not support saving new grain samples going forward in CC 2015 and beyond.  The Degrain filter is in the obsolete category and it is recommended that future projects use BCC Noise Reduction instead of Degrain.

The BCC Motion Tracker will continue to render previously saved motion tracker analysis passes and it will continue to support loading externally generated tracker data files, but conducting new motion analysis passes is temporarily disabled in BCC 9.0.4 for CC 2015.  A revised (and improved) version of the BCC Motion Tracker which is fully compliant with AE CC 2015 will be released in BCC10.
When enabling the stabilization feature in BCC Motion Key you may sometimes experience a longer than expected pause while motion analysis data is recomputed after events such as saving a project or cloning a layer or an effect instance.  This occasional performance delay will be eliminated in BCC10.

Due to host-side limitations in After Effects, the standalone BCC Beat Reactor filter is not supported in the initial release of AE CC 2015.  The integrated Beat Reactor is fully supported in AE CC 2015, however, and we are working with Adobe to ensure the standalone version is re-enabled in a future AE CC 2015 point release.

What's new in Continuum Complete 9.0.3:

  • Work around a host-side memory leak in Premiere CC2014 when using BCC filters in interlaced projects.

What's new in Continuum Complete 9.0.1:

Feature Enhancements in BCC AE 9.0.1:

  • The FX Browser can now be applied to Precomps or Adjustment Layers in AE.
  • More than 100 new transition presets.
  • Built-in Vignette added to Pan and Zoom.
  • Motion Blur now supported for 3D Mode in Pan and Zoom.
  • Improved GPU support on ATI systems.
  • Help Docs refinements.
  • Colored Background option added to Swish Pan.

Bug Fixes In BCC AE 9.0.1:

  • Warp - Antialiasing not working.
  • Vector Blur Dissolve - Ignore Edge Pixels not working as expected
  • Edge Grunge - Layer Border options not working as expected.
  • Film Damage - Error messages when applied to time remapped clips in Premiere.
  • Vector Blur Dissolve - Streaks visible on video that has alpha transparency.
  • Revise parameter defaults for several transitions.
  • Sporadic instability when loading animated presets in the FX Browser.
  • FX Browser - sporadic instability in Mac AE when closing the browser or switching from AE to other apps and then back again while the browser is open.
  • Extruded Text - Hitting Apply in the text edit window causes other apps to jump in front of AE.
  • Extruded Text - Refresh issue when launching the text window with fragments of the window bar being drawn in the wrong place and then not refreshing.
  • Cuda driver errors are displayed on some ATI systems which had previously installed NVIDIA cards.
  • FX Browser - Saving Workspace does not allow overwriting of an existing one.
  • FX Browser - Workspaces save number does not automatically advance beyond 2 on windows.
  • FX Browser - Open folders are not always saved and restored.
  • 3D Objects filters will incorrectly cache the first layer assigned as texture/bump map, even if that layer has been deleted and another assigned.
  • Sporadic instability with 3D Objects filters on windows, especially in Premiere on Windows 8.
  • Laser Beam - Motion Blur does not work in Premiere.
  • Damaged TV - Triangle and Saw edge shapes don’t animate.
  • Grunge - 4K displacement map doesn’t work when 4K media is selected as the layer.
  • Grunge - With 'use texture' turned off, displacement map uses source layer as map even when map is set to texture.
  • Grunge - Glow in 4K media gets bigger when dropping resolution.
  • Lens Flare 3D - Instability in AE when applying to alpha media and selecting images smaller than comp sized as background.
  • Grunge - Opacity parameter incorrectly adjusting scratches.
  • Vignette - When dropping resolution to third or quarter, the blur shifts unexpectedly.
  • Damaged TV Dissolve - Interference shows random gaps in interference on side edge of screen.
  • Preset library - Remove outdated presets in some filters which distract from browsing the more important entries.
  • Several Jitter presets contain incorrect default Y offsets.
  • Sphere Transition - Uses wrong folder for default preset location.

BCC AE 9.x Compatibility Notes:

While in general your previously saved projects should render identically in the newer version, bug fixes and quality improvements can sometimes change the look of older projects. While every effort is made to ensure project compatibility, the following notable areas may see some change to the look of previously saved projects.

  • In all wipe-style transitions which contain Border options, the opacity of the border elements fades automatically at the start/end of transitions (except in manual mode) to fix potential jumps in the renders at the start and end of the transitions even when border offsets were non-zero.
  • The largely unnecessary Hold In / Hold Out parameters were removed from the Animation Tuning group in all transitions which could cause changes in the transition timing in the unlikely event these parameters had been changed from their defaults.
  • As part of the major performance optimizations implemented in Damaged TV for BCC9, some details can such as the randomization patterns can render differently although the overall feel of the effect should remain the same.
  • BCC9 fixes a bug introduced in BCC8.2 that affected the perceived rate of progress of the underlying dissolve in BCC Lens Transition. Projects saved in BCC8.2 or 8.3 maybe appear to render somewhat differently now that the dissolve rate has been fixed.
  • BCC9 fixes a gamma shift in some externally loaded images on Mac systems (such as those loaded by Pan and Zoom, or the particle files in Particle Emitter 3D, Organics Strands, or Particle Array) which caused the images to appear slightly too dark as compared to the same image when imported on Windows. These images now render identically on Mac and Windows but Mac projects saved with these filters prior to BCC9 may display slight brightness boosts in such images.

The following memory requirements are recommended for both Macintosh and Windows users:

  • Minimum 2GB (assigned to host application)
  • Recommended 2GB+ (assigned to host application)

Host Compatability

Adobe: Creative Cloud 2015, CC 2014, CC, CS6 – After Effects and Premiere Pro

Platform Compatibility

Windows 7 64bit, Windows 8 64bit, Windows 10

Mac OSX 10.7 - 10.10

Supported Graphics Cards

Many Boris Continuum Complete filters harness the unmatched processing power of modern GPU engines to create stunning visual effects. Almost any graphics card released during the past three years will provide the features necessary to run OpenGL-accelerated Boris Continuum Complete filters. Below is a partial list of graphics cards we have tested in our labs. However, newer versions of these NVIDIA and ATI cards will also be suitable for use with Boris Continuum Complete.

  • NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500, 1700, 1800, 3450, 3500, 3700, 3800, 4500, 4600, 5500, 5600
  • NVIDIA Quadro 2000, 4000, 5000
  • NVIDIA GeForce 6800, 7800, 7900, 7950, 8600, 8800
  • ATI FireGL V3300 and up, V5200 and up, V7200 and up, V8600 and up
  • ATI Radeon x1900, x1950

We recommend that you run the latest graphics card driver version supported by your host application.

In addition, for HD editing, we suggest a graphics card with a minimum of 512MB of RAM; 1GB of RAM would be recommended.

Customers who purchase a Boris Continuum Unit may credit the price of the Unit towards the full Boris Continuum Complete plug-in suite at $895.

Supported OpenGL Configurations

Currently Boris Continuum Complete includes two groups of filters that are OpenGL dependent. These groups are: BCC 3D Objects and BCC OpenGL. All of the filters that are in these groups are OpenGL-dependent. OpenGL is required to use these filters.

Working with OpenGL

Boris Continuum Complete’s OpenGL hardware acceleration speeds rendering for all filters in the BCC 3D Objects and the BCC OpenGL categories. OpenGL is a cross-platform standard that dramatically improves interactivity and rendering. “GL” stands for graphics library. ”Open” refers to the ongoing, industry-wide contributions to its evolution. OpenGL is built into both the Windows and Macintosh operating systems as well as a wide variety of display cards. More details about OpenGL are available from

Currently Boris Continuum Complete includes several filters that are OpenGL dependent. These are:

BCC Glare, BCC Glint, BCC Glitter, BCC Lens Flare, BCC Lens Flare Advanced, BCC Damaged TV, BCC Scanline, BCC LED, BCC Prism, BCC 3D Extruded Image Shatter, BCC Extruded Text, BCC Extruded Spline, BCC Type-On Text, BCC Layer Deformer, BCC Lightning and BCC Tile Mosaic. OpenGL is required to use these filters.

OpenGL Acceleration Requirements

The first time you apply any of the OpenGL filters, BCC performs a fast, automatic test to look for the specific OpenGL capabilities. If your configuration passes this internal test, the filter opens with OpenGL enabled. If your configuration does not pass, an error message displays instead of the image, and OpenGL is disabled. However, depending on the error message, you may elect to enable OpenGL manually.

Slow response

I have used Boris for several years and on many different hosts, and I always notice that there is always a slight lag in between the responses. When you scrub a certain setting, it takes a while (just a slight pause) before the change is reflected on my computer. I had Sapphire on the same system and the response that I get from Sapphire is so much better. However, for this price, I guess something have to give. But generally if you don't mind the lag, it's still a wonderful set of plugins. I suggest that you download the trial first and give it a spin on your computer just to see how well it performs.

With the BCC package you're getting over 200 effects at the end of the day, and there is a lot to play around with here.

Animators and After Effects aficionados will truly find a lot to love with Boris Continuum Complete 7, and it is truly the most extensive collection of plug-in FX I have seen. If you had to choose just one set of plug-ins, this is it. On the other hand, editors who don't perform a lot of animation will probably be content to work with what they already have at their disposal.

While it's impossible to fully explore every single filter during the writing of a review, I am really grateful for certain effects I will be using over and over again. Personal favorites include the BCC UpRez filter (which upsamples SD footage to HD in a more intelligent manner than simply using your built in "Motion" setting) as well as the 3D text, and 3D EPS filters (which is basically the same sort of 3D controls you get with the text effects, but can be used an any image file once it's been converted to EPS format.)

If you consider yourself an animator, you'll want to pick this up asap.
