Tangent FX Glitcher

Glitcher – Transition and Effect for Final Cut Pro X

Tangent FX Glitcher Transitions let you drag and drop the digital disruption onto your Final Cut Pro X videos. With 7 different glitch operators, Glitcher allows for a multitude of data glitch visual effects, including color data glitching, noise, brightness flickering, pixelation, distortion and more. This product comes with both a glitch transition and a glitch effect.

Glitcher comes with two different Final Cut Pro X plug-ins: Glitcher Effect and Glitcher Transition. Both use the same basic design. The key difference is that the effect version has a flicker on/off behavior and the transition version leaves the glitch elements on. Notice that the effect has frequency control for the on/off frequency and the transition has opacity control to mix the elements as needed.

Applying the Effect

To apply Glitcher, select Tangent FX | Glitcher in the Effects Browser or the Transition Browser and then drag & drop it on your clip or transition point.

Adjusting the Glitcher Effect

Aberration Width

Aberration refers to splitting of the red, green and blue channels.  In the Glitcher Effect, the aberration width flickers from from to frame. Aberration width controls the maximum aberration split distance in pixels.

Glitch Frequency

This controls how frequently the color glitch is visible. Color glitch is an image sequence of authentic data glitch images composited with the original footage.

Noise Frequency

This controls how frequently the noise artifacts are visible. Noise is an image sequence of authentic noise images composited with the original footage.

Pixelate Scale

The pixelation is a rectangular area that randomizes on every frame. This control is the scale of the pixellation size. A setting of 1 means that the pixellation is 1 pixel in size, and therefore has no visible effect.

Flicker Brightness

This controls the maximum level of the brightness flickering. A setting of zero disables the brightness flickering.

Distortion Displace

The image distortion uses the luminance of the glitch image to displace the pixels. This control is the maximum number of pixels displaced by the glitch image.

Scan Line Brightness

This is the brightness of scan lines composited over the video.
