Most of BCC 6 AE's effects run in Adobe's Premiere Pro CS4, my NLE of choice, and After Effects, an application with which I have a love-hate relationship. There are a few new effects that only run in After Effects. They tend to involve 3D text, or both. The BCC 6 filters that run in AE I find easier to use than many native AE filters. One that was surprisingly easy to use was the Type-On Text filter. While I've used AE's templates to make animated tltles before, this lets you do much more, with less work. It also creates the text in 3D, with a wide array of textures, and pre-made motion files, that far exceeds what you can do in AE alone.

The Boris Continuum Motion Tracker Unit includes the Corner Pin, Match Move, Wire Remover, and Witness Protection filters from Boris Continuum Complete 6:

• BCC Corner Pin allows editors to map media to a specific area on a moving object in a media file. For example, if a media file includes a moving bus with an advertisement on its side, an editor could use Corner Pin to track and replace the advertisement with a logo.
• BCC Match Move locks the movement of one image clip to another image clip. One of the great advantages of using the Match Move filter is that it includes full DVE functions such as tumble, spin, and rotate along with interesting lighting and light wrap compositing features.
• BCC Wire Remover removes wires and unwanted objects from still or moving images by either cloning or blending pixels together from surrounding areas.
• BCC Witness Protection allows editors to track the motion of an object in a media file. Editors can then use the motion path data to control another aspect of the effect. For example, an editor can track a logo on a t-shirt and use a blur to obscure the logo. Mosaic, tint, or brightness/contrast effects could also be applied to the specified area.

VoiceOver Tool. Media 100 Suite’s new VoiceOver Tool allows direct-to-timeline audio recording while playing back timeline audio and video. Primarily designed for recording narration, the VoiceOver Tool leverages Media 100 Suite’s new MultiClip architecture to allow for multiple takes nested inside a single audio clip in the timeline. VoiceOvers can be recorded as stereo pairs or separate channels allowing different narrators to record in a single take. Other possibilities include simultaneously recording dialogue to separate channels or laying down a live music track.

Extruded EPS Filter. This new filter provides an easy way to import and extrude Adobe Illustrator layered vector logos and graphics in Adobe After Effects. The filter includes full integration with the After Effects 3D camera and lighting system and incorporates the same 3D material presets and free-form deformation properties of other BCC 6 AE 3D Objects filters. The filter is capable of tracking an EPS file using a Watch Folder, making the EPS file live should it be edited in Adobe Illustrator. A handy Keep EPS Color feature lets you preserve the original fill colors for each element as a diffuse color option of the material.

New 3D Objects, Real-Time Effects Browser Window, and Real-Time Chroma Key, Film Look, and Transition Effects for Apple Pro Video Applications

Marlborough MA - April 16, 2009 - Boris FX , the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, announced that a public beta of Boris Continuum Complete 6 FxPlug (BCC 6 FxPlug) for Apple Pro Video Applications is now available.

BCC 6 FxPlug brings over 200 filters to Apple Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Final Cut Express. In addition to new features included with the recently-released Boris Continuum Complete 6 AE for Adobe - such as Extruded Text, Splines, and Shapes - BCC 6 FxPlug takes advantage of Apple FxPlug's real-time architecture for simultaneous live previews of dozens of preset transitions, glows, and color and film look effects in a newly-designed effects browser window. Code-named "Popcorn", this new technology delivers the best of Boris on Apple's FxPlug platform.

Creating Transitions with BCC 6 AE's Swish Pan Filter: Editors use transitions as a way to cut between scenes, typically creating an animated effect such as a dissolve or blur at the end of the outgoing clip and the beginning of the incoming clip. While most modern NLE systems ship with standard wipe transitions, there are some transition styles that are more of an in-camera effect rather than a synthesized gradient wipe or block dissolve.

One of these effects, known as a "Swish Pan," is created by panning the camera very quickly in a 180 degree arc, creating the look of a fast blur between the outgoing and incoming clips. Continuing in the tradition of making visual effects easy to create, Boris Continuum Complete 6 AE now includes a Swish Pan transition filter which is available free for registered BCC 6 AE users. In this video tutorial, we'll use the new BCC 6 Swish Pan filter to transition between a pair of clips.
