Toolfarm Events Calendar... here's what we're doing...
We have a lot going on in the coming couple of months. Here's a brief rundown.
Sept 29 - Boris Continuum Chroma Key Offer Ends
Oct 1-3 - Final Cut Studio Conference, Mt. Pleasant, MI.
I'll be teaching some Apple Motion Seminars at the conference. As far as conferences go, this one is very inexpensive and there are excellent classes being held. Plus, Mt. Pleasant is home to the world famous Sweet Onion restaurant. :-)
Oct 8-9 - Rocky Mountain VidExpo, Denver, CO.
Toolfarm will be running a booth at the show. Stop by and say hi to Alicia and Michele from Toolfarm (that's me!). Also, if you register by October 2, you can get into the exhibit hall, the keynote address and some of the seminars for free.
Oct 12-15 - Motion08 Conference (special offer expires September 30), Albuquerque, NM.
Use that link to get a fantastic special offer. Save $600! For real! Trish and Chris Meyer, Mark Coleran and others will be presenting so this is a big show not to be missed. Not only that, the NM Hot Air Balloon Festival is at the same time. Toolfarm may have a booth at the show. We're in this little contest and we're very close to getting in.
Oct 13-17 - MG Fest, Orlando, FL
Toolfarm is a sponsor of the MG Fest. It's a traveling show this year and will be hitting loads of US cities. I'll be teaching some classes at the Chicago stop in January. Nothing like Chicago in January...
Oct 24 - The Nobody Hole Contest Ends
The contest just launched last night! This is something like we've never done before and we're very excited about it. There are boatloads of prizes. Check it out!
Oct 29 - Adobe CS4 Expected Ship Date
Can you wait that long!?

IBC FCP SuperMeet Report
Right now I'm sitting in the audience waiting for them to pull my raffle ticket out for something really great and hoping it isn't something I already have :-) Digieffects is giving away 4 $1200 plug-in packages and Eyescream Factory is currently being pulled.
The SuperMeet was VERY successful. It was really cool to meet up with our European customers... and many people who are AE users and FCP users who had never heard of Red Giant or Toolfarm (can you believe that!) Everyone was so nice and had really great questions for us. It was a lot of fun and very worthwhile to attend. Here are a few photos.

L to R: Miguel de Olaso (aka MacGregor), Beth Manning from Red Giant, Michele Yamazaki from Toolfarm, Philip Bloom and Steve from France.

Moving Pictures Collective Meeting Report
I was invited to the June Motion Picture Collective Meeting on plug-ins. It was held at Pratt Institute in New York City.
I got there about 45 minutes early and there was no one there! After about 30 minutes I started to worry that I came to the wrong place. As I was walking around I ran into Wes Plate of Automatic Duck. We chatted for a bit and then people started to roll in.
The pizza, sponsored by Sony, was incredible. Seriously, some of the best I've ever had. I had some veggie concoction, but Michael Vitti, head of MoPic Collective told me they also had some Cajun Shrimp pizza, but they only ordered one pie. Sounds fantastic!
The meeting started with an introduction and then Frank Garfi and Marc Fratto talked about their film Zombies Anonymous. Two words: Gratuitous violence. Their talk was pretty interesting though. They've taken the zombie story and flipped it around, making it a statement about how Arabs were treated after 9-11.

After that, Juan Martinez and Andrew Shipsides talked about Sony's EX Cameras.
Wes Plate from
Automatic Duck came up and presented his products. Since there were so many editors in the audience, there was a lot of interest in his FCP products, especially.
My turn. Right before the show began, we were told we have an extra 15 minutes to fill. My presentation was planned to be exactly 20 minutes! Haha. I began asking the audience some questions about editing technique vs. software knowledge and then talked about Toolfarm. I presented
Boris Continuum Complete and as usual, people are blown away by the Motion Key filter. I also had quite a bit of interest in the BCC Pan & Zoom filter which gives the Ken Burns style effect. I had a bit of time at the end, so I quickly showed Red Giant's
Primatte Keyer, since keying seems to be a hot topic lately.

Next Michael Vitti showed
Zaxwerks ProAnimator, then Jason Diamond showed
Red Giant Magic Bullet Looks, which is always a crowd pleaser. I can't help but think that Zombies Anonymous could have benefited from a touch of Looks! Jason did a great job of presenting Looks and demo'd with some footage from a music video he had recently finished.
They also had an auction that night with tons of stuff.
Anyway, it was a good meeting and it was fun to get to New York City again. Thanks Michael Vitti for the invitation and the shirt. I love free shirts! It was great to see everyone in NYC, especially my old buddy Jim G. of the Toolfarm Expert Forum and Chris Tack, one of my former students who headed out to NYC after graduation. I also met quite a few new people from the NYC area. I saw Mario Lopez at a hot dog stand too! He's buff!

Michele Yamazaki of Toolfarm demoing in NYC
Yep, that's right. I'll be at the Motion Picture Collective meeting demoing Boris Continuum Complete and maybe Boris Final Effects Complete if there is time.
From the MPC newsletter:
Toolfarm has been taking a proactive community approach to EFX for a while now with the Plugged-In podcasts, the Experts Forums and their great compendium of plug-ins & software. Michele is the VP of Marketing for Toolfarm and is hence responsible for the awesome, 50% off One Day Sales (I keep missing). If not for the pizza or the auction, you must make it a point to meet the Software Diva, the Effects Dignitary, Michele Y and her Boris FX demo.
Oh, they flatter me. I'm certainly can't take credit for the One Day Sales. Effects Dignitary.... I like that. Has a nice ring to it. :-)

NYC Adobe Event - May 29
Dennis Radeke is organizer of the Adobe event later this month on May 29 near B&H at the New Yorker Hotel's Crystal Ballroom on the 2nd floor. There will be two sessions, 11am-3:30pm and 3:30pm-8pm.
From Dennis' Blog,
The Genesis Project:
Additionally, rather than have the event be static where you sit and we talk, it is a twofold event. In one area, you'll have a large room where many of the vendors will present their products and workflows throughout the day in rapid fire 20 minute presentations. I hope that one of the highlights to these 20 minute demos will be a 20 minute technology preview demo of some stuff we're working on that I think you will find VERY helpful.
The event will have onsite representation from Adobe, AJA, Blackmagic Design, B&H, CalDigit, DigiEffects, GenArts, GridIron, Matrox, Maxon, MOTU, Wacom and Zoomin Online (aka Magnet Media).
They're giving away LOADS of prizes from these sponsors too. If you're in NYC at the end of May, this is a free event. Don't miss it.
