15 Filters for Creating Realistic Surfaces and Animated Organic Backgrounds

The Boris Continuum Materials Unit includes 15 Boris Continuum Complete filters for creating realistic surfaces and animated organic backgrounds.

The Boris Continuum Materials Unit generates realistic textures such as Steel Plates, Bricks, Clouds, Granite, Wooden Planks, and Rock. The textures are procedurally-generated to ensure smooth render at any scale. Each filter provides a variety of animation parameters including controls for the color, width, height, and other aspects of the material. Despill effectively neutralizes excess green and blue spill without tell-tale magenta or yellow fringe artifacts found in other keyers. Artifacts force you to chose: spend time and money trying to correct them, or settle for artifacts worse than the original spill.

DIFFKEYER
DiffKeyer creates a matte based on difference between two images. For example, film an empty room (cleanplate), then film the same room with actors present. DiffKeyer will create a matte of the actors, as if the actors were shot in front of a green or blue screen. This gives you the ability to effectively key without a green or blue screen.

KEYER
Three keying engines in one package: YUV Difference, 3d Keyer, and Channel Keyer. Keyer gives you powerful optimized controls to extract precise keys in seconds. You may have heard Peter's name around here when referring to his fantastic idustrial revolution plug-ins, but Peter's is also a master editor. He's very well-known in the UK as an editor of sporting video. Last year at IBC we talked about his snooker tournament work which was up next on his schedule, but I had no idea he edited the Tour de France, a yachting competition and more. He has such a strong eye for seeing where the cuts fit together and shares tidbits about working with sporting footage on a tight deadlines, editing to audio, and so on. It's a very interesting video and interview (which streamed live yesterday). Watch it here.

Ernie Schaeffer has been involved in media production for over 15 years as technical specialist, editor, compositor, composer, colorist and producer in various aspects of audio, video, web, DVD and development of high-level software applications. He has worked as technical director and consultant on DVD's for world recognized artists like Mana. Ernie has worked in production teams on projects with Televisa, bringing rich experience and new media technologies. Ernie has been training and consulting creating production workflow processes for high level production clients like Channel 4 television of Guanajuato, Mexico. Ernie recently was the Post Production Supervisor for Sony Entertainment Television "Sessions with Alejandro Franco" which airs throughout all Latin America and Spain every Saturday prime time. Ernie is the author of Final Cut Studio HD Workflow Volume 1, a workflow training seriespublished by All4dvd inc. where he is Head of Training and has recently teamed up with The Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University (CDIABU) as Consulting Director for the Apple Certified master program.

Howard Phillips:
Associate Director of CDIA Digital Film Program
Howard has been involved in film and video work for over 20 years. His first venture was a business specializing in corporate and music video productions, earning a slot on MTV's Basement Tapes with his production of Fools for Fashion by The Talk. In 1988, after working as a freelance cameraperson in the US and in Europe, he moved to Boston and founded The Edit House, Avid's first dedicated 24fps beta site which provided film editorial and post-production services to over 80 feature films. Over an eight-year period, Howard made significant contributions to Avid's Film Composer quality assurance team and was invited to share in Avid's second Technical Oscar (SciTech Award) in 1998. Howard currently teaches and provides testing/ consulting services to companies such as Aaton, Arriflex, Avid and Panasonic. He studied film and television at Montana State University and is fluent in French. Recent projects include assistant editing, camera and translation for the Jon Fauer ASC's Cinematographer Style, and post production manager on independent and CDIA film and digital video projects.

Collaborative .pdf magazine features over 170 pages of tutorials, tips, techniques and feature articles for today's digital filmmaker

The Final Cut Pro User Group Network (FCPUG Network) announces the immediate availability of issue three of the FCPUG "SuperMag" magazine, a free online .pdf download via registration on the FCPUG Network website. Issue three of SuperMag consists of over 170 pages of tutorials, tips, techniques and feature articles for today's digital filmmaker. It is being released in conjunction with the upcoming Second Annual Amsterdam FCPUG SuperMeet which takes place on Sunday, 13 September at the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The SuperMag is a collaborative, user-authored digital magazine written by some of the world's leading creative professionals in the editing and digital filmmaking community. This SuperMag was originally released as part of a DVD collection of Final Cut Studio resources to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Final Cut Pro at the Eighth Annual NAB FCPUG SuperMeet in Las Vegas this past April 2009.

Institutional Users On Adobe After Effects and Apple Final Cut Pro Can Now Enjoy Significantly Reduced Support Costs While Maximizing Resource Allocation

• BCC Corner Pin allows editors to map media to a specific area on a moving object in a media file. For example, if a media file includes a moving bus with an advertisement on its side, an editor could use Corner Pin to track and replace the advertisement with a logo.
• BCC Match Move locks the movement of one image clip to another image clip. One of the great advantages of using the Match Move filter is that it includes full DVE functions such as tumble, spin, and rotate along with interesting lighting and light wrap compositing features.
• BCC Wire Remover removes wires and unwanted objects from still or moving images by either cloning or blending pixels together from surrounding areas.
• BCC Witness Protection allows editors to track the motion of an object in a media file. Editors can then use the motion path data to control another aspect of the effect. For example, an editor can track a logo on a t-shirt and use a blur to obscure the logo. Mosaic, tint, or brightness/contrast effects could also be applied to the specified area.
