New Noise Industries FxFactory-Powered FxPacks for Final Cut Studio and Express

6/18/2008 Permalink 0 Comments share on linkedin
Noise Industries Development Partner SUGARfx introduces clever
workflow plug-ins for managing slates, layout, and design elements in
video projects.

Boston MA – June 18, 2008 – Noise Industries, developer of visual
effects tools for the postproduction and broadcast markets, today
announced that development partner SUGARfx (www.sugarqc.com) has
released the FxFactory powered FxPacks Design Tools and Slate Tools;
time saving workflow plug-ins for Apple Final Cut Studio® 2.0 and
Apple Final Cut Express 4.0 applications. The new Design Tools and
Slate Tools FxPacks can be used daily to ensure time-consuming tasks
such as slate generation, color management, and precise object
placement can be done quickly and with exact precision. SUGARfx
created the Design Tools and Slate Tools FxPacks using the Noise
Industries FxFactory Pro Plug-in Manager.

"These two releases come as part of the SUGARfx Design Tools series,
plug-ins purpose-built for easing the pain points across the editing
workflow. Daily tasks such as managing the position of elements,
maintaining color accuracy and video slates are easily facilitated
through Design Tools and Slate Tools FxPacks," said Niclas Bahn,
director of business development, Noise Industries. "The new SUGARfx
plug-ins are something that all designers can appreciate the moment
they load them and more importantly benefit every day they open their
editing application."

Noise Industries SUGARfx Toolbox: Design Tools FxPack
The Design Tools FxPack provides users color perfect layouts and a
wide range of guides to position elements accurately for every
project. Plug-in highlights include:

Design Checker Guides automatically tell editors whether or not their
projects will work with 35mm film, iPod formats, HD, SD and the other
standards. Close-up previews visually show editors how their work may
need to be cropped or changed in order to fit the final format.

Design Color Palette ensures colors remain true to specifications
throughout entire projects. Users can create their own color palette
presets and share them with other editors; maintaining color
consistency throughout the production process.

Design Proportional Guides is an assistant type feature used for
creating well-balanced layouts. The Design Custom Guides helps editors
position everything and anything on the screen accurately over time.
This plug-in is ideal for logo placement or titling, or menu layouts
that need to be done more than once. Editors can save and share
presets.

The Preview Player
plug-in previews media in mobile media formats. The
preview allows editors to view elements as they would be displayed in
final format – enabling them to make the necessary adjustments for
optimum viewing prior to finishing.

Noise Industries SUGARfx Toolbox: Slate Tools FxPack
The Slate Tools FxPack automates slate production.
Plug-in highlights include:

The Slate Master plug-in
automates the building of commonly used
slates. The feature includes 4 styles with comprehensive controls for
adjusting slate parameters and 21 pre-set slate templates. Editors can
increase productivity and creativity by focusing on more creative
aspects of the production, as opposed to slate production.

The Slate Warning plug-in provides a simple solution for automating
the creation of copyright warnings and disclaimer notices. Users can
animate scrolling, add custom logos, and adjust color and other slate
effects elements. Editors can save their presets and share with other
users increasing overall collaboration

Noise Industries Releases FxFactory 2.0

11/20/2007 Permalink 0 Comments share on linkedin
Here's the official press release:

noise industriesNoise Industries released FxFactory 2 with support for Final Cut Express 4 as well as Final Cut Studio applications and Mac OS X Leopard and Tiger. It also FxFactory Pro has been completely redesigned with better rendering quality, better performance, contextual parameter interface, better compositing features and much more.

FxFactory 2 supports Final Cut Express 4 as well as Final Cut Studio. A single product will let you use the same plug-ins in three hosts: Final Cut Pro, Motion and Final Cut Express.

FxFactory 2 runs on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard as well as Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Look for improved performance and new, exclusive plug-ins when running under the new version of Mac OS X. FxFactory sports a new plug-in management interface which lets you browse installed plug-ins and see thumbnail previews of all the visual effects on your system.

The new effect browser displays relevant status information and lets you search, for example, for all transitions available in a given plug-in package. A quick look to the effect categories can help you determine where each plug-in is found inside Final Cut Pro, Motion and Final Cut Express.

The new version of FxFactory is fully compatible with your existing plug-in collection. Look for updated versions of your favorite plug-ins by CoreMelt, idustrial revolution, SUGARfx and Futurismo Zugakousaku to take full advantage of the new features in FxFactory 2.

What's new in FxFactory Pro?
  • FxFactory Pro 2.0 includes 122 filters, generators and transitions. 50 plug-ins are new to this release. All FxFactory Pro plug-ins now support high-precision rendering and are fully customizable.
  • Contextual parameter UI. When running FxFactory Pro plug-ins inside Final Cut Studio 2 and Final Cut Express, users can now enjoy a simplified parameter interface: parameters will be disabled and/or hidden when they are not relevant to the current effect configuration.
  • Masking. A new masking engine is now part of many FxFactory Pro plug-ins. This advanced functionality saves an extra compositing step without sacrificing performance
  • Better quality. Many plug-ins in FxFactory Pro are now capable of field-based rendering, a technique which provides better performance and better quality by avoiding filtering artifacts. The improved plug-ins require Final Cut Studio 2 applications and Final Cut Express.
  • Super-fast glows. A new, completely redesigned "NI Glow" category sports a series of highly optimized glow and light spill variants. The ubiquitous "Glow" effect is fast, flexible yet simple to use, and capable of high-precision rendering.
  • Improved classics. Some of our most popular plug-ins were improved or completely redesigned according to your feedback. For instance, new versions of Perspective Reflection and Videoconference sport a much easier configuration. New options and features make many old favorites better than ever.
  • Better development features. This new version brings dozens of improvements for plug-in developers: an improved editing interface, new Core Image units for Quartz Composer, new or improved custom parameters and access to the latest features available with Final Cut Studio 2 applications and Final Cut Express (such as contextual parameter UI and field-based rendering techniques).

Upgrading from FxFactory Pro 1.0
Current FxFactory Pro 1.0 customers may upgrade to FxFactory Pro 2.0 for only $129. Upgrade pricing is available at our online store.

Please note that if you purchased FxFactory Pro 1.0 on or after September 15th, 2007 you are entitled to a free upgrade. Please email sales@noiseindustries.com to request your registration code.

FxFactory Pro no longer bundles the Motion and Editing Packs. Although the Motion and Editing packs are now available separately from CoreMelt, this change does not affect users upgrading from FxFactory Pro 1.0, who will retain their license to the Motion and Editing Packs acquired when purchasing FxFactory Pro 1.0. The CoreMelt Motion and Editing Pack plug-ins may now be found under the effect categories that begin with "CM" (e.g. CM Glow).

FxFactory 1.0.6

noise industriesfxplugmac universalThis free update to FxFactory fixes compatibility problems with Motion 3, adds two new plug-ins and sports many other improvements.

Videoconference
This new transition available to FxFactory Pro users simulates the effect of entering a video chat with multiple participants in iChat. The incoming and outgoing clips provide the video source for the chat "participants" on your timeline.

Neon Circles
This new filter available to FxFactory Pro users combines edge detection techniques with some of the techniques of the Dots and LED Lights plug-ins to give you a flexible stylization that lends itself to creating interesting backgrounds and cool new pixellation effects.

User Presets
The Presets feature in FxFactory has been improved to allow user-generated presets to appear in the Presets popup menu in the parameter inspector:

Perspective Reflection
One of our most popular plug-ins has been improved with a simple, yet powerful new feature: the "Reflection Swingback" parameter lets you animate in and out of the effect, making it easier to blend the effect with existing content on the timeline

Other Changes
Minor bug fixes and/or improvements have also been made to the Pencil Sketch plug-in, to the distortion effects in the FxFactory Motion Pack, and to the transitions in the FxFactory Editing Pack.

A Conversation with Noise Industries' Niclas Bahn

3/16/2007 Permalink 0 Comments share on linkedin
FxFactory SampleThis morning I chatted with Niclas Bahn from Noise Industries, about FxFactory a plug-in package for Final Cut Studio that works in Final Cut Pro and Motion. He explains how the plug-in utilizes the FxPlug architecture on the Mac, as well as Quartz Composer. And, did I mention how fast it is!

What really sets this product apart is that users can create their own plug-ins, making it infinitely expandable. There is a community set up where users have contributed FxPacks, some for free and some for a price. Users do not know how to program to use the plug-in.
