"Peter and I have been having a serious love-in with Sony's Vegas Video editing software this year. I'm a long-time Premiere user, but it hasn't been getting a look in since I realized just how much faster it is for me to edit video with Vegas. I've had my eyes opened to the flow. Vegas lets you make edits, rearrange, delete, fade, and layer clips without interrupting playback."

What is the oldest text animation effect in film history? You guessed right: the credit roll. Traditionally, a long page of text is rolled from the bottom of the screen revealing line after line. In the early days of cinematography, a paper print was physically rolled before the film camera to produce this effect. Hence the name: Credit Roll.
A complete set of tools for creating credit rolls is included with Boris Graffiti, Boris RED, and Boris Blue. The same functionality is available in Boris Calligraphy which is bundled with Apple Final Cut Pro and Apple Final Cut Express and Boris Title Toolkit which is available for Adobe After Effects.
There are several Boris Continuum Complete (BCC) filters that were designed to produce the glow effect that is very popular for sports broadcast and commercial spots. In this new tutorial, we will use BCC 5 AE in Adobe After Effects CS3 to give you an overview of the BCC Glow, BCC Colorize Glow, and BCC Glow Alpha Edges filters. These same filters are available for Avid and Apple Final Cut Pro editors with a similar workflow using BCC 5 AVX and BCC 5 FxPlug. In addition, the glow filters are included with RED 4.2, Boris FX 9.2, and Graffiti 5.2.

There has been some questions and confusion about how exactly to install plug-ins for After Effects CS3 on Windows Vista. If you put the plug-ins in the right place, plug-ins can also be used with Premiere Pro CS3... that is, if the plug-ins are Premiere Pro CS3 compatible.
If you're a Vista user and have something to add to the tutorial, please email me at michele [at] toolfarm.com.

ToonIt does a great job of creating a cartoon look from video, but it's also capable of other types of 'painterly' and non-photorealistic looks. In this tutorial, we take a look out how to create some of those looks, by adjusting the ToonIt settings and applying other After Effects' filters before and after ToonIt.
This creates a pretty cool range of interesting effects. Check out the video tutorial and let us know what you think. Or... better yet, submit some of your own receipes for getting more than advertised out of ToonIt!
