Known Issues

Q: Flares on large images can show considerable banding. What is the best way to work with a large image?

Apply Knoll Light Factory to a smaller sized black solid, then scale the entire image up to the desired size, and either use unmult or screen transfer mode to composite on top of the larger image. For example, to apply a flare to a 4096 x 4096 image:

  • Make a new 1024 x 1024 black solid.
  • Apply Knoll Light Factory flare to the black solid.
  • Scale the solid with the flare up by 4x using the highest quality scale available.
  • Overlay the scaled solid on top of the 4k image
  • Use either Unmult or the Screen transfer mode to composite the two images.

Result: A higher quality flare than if you had simply applied it directly to the larger 4k image.
