General Issues
Q: I have not received my serial number, where is it?
Serial number(s) are sent to the e-mail address you provide at checkout (Download orders only). To ensure a safe delivery of this message please read the following:
- Please allow up to 5 hours for this e-mail message to be received.
- Serial number(s) may be looked up online within 3 hours of check out using our Serial Number Look Up System.
- Cross-grade and Academic orders require verification, these are sent within 1 business day.
- Please check your Junk mail folder, as it is common to find this message there.
Q: I just downloaded a .SIT &/or .ZIP file, now what?
- To open .Sit or .Zip files you must have compression software installed on your system. Download: The Unarchiver, StuffIt Expander, or WinZip
- After installing compression software, extract the file contents and use the provided installer for installation.
Q: Can I have my serial number re-sent?
Unfortinatly Serial number look up is available to customers who purchased a Download directly from Red Giant Software.
Q: How do I install Trapcode for Windows [All Hosts]?
1.Once you have downloaded the Trapcode 3D Stroke Installer, run the .exe icon.
2.Click Next to continue.
3.Click Next to continue.
4.Read instructions and click Next to continue.
5.Agree to the License Agreement by clicking Yes.
6.You may either install the Trial version or enter your Serial Number to activate your purchased product.
7.Install to the correct Destination Directory.
- AE 7: C: Program Files Adobe Adobe After Effects 7.0 Support Files Plug-ins
- AE CS3: C: Program Files Adobe Adobe After Effects CS3 Support Files Plug-ins
- PPro 2: C: Program Files Adobe Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Plug-ins en_US
- PPro CS3: C: Program Files Adobe Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 Plug-ins en_US
- AVX: C: Program Files MBCC AVX_Plug-Ins
8.Installation is complete! Click Close.
9.Product Registration automatically opens in web browser.
10.Fill out product registration form.
Q: How do I install Trapcode 3D Shine, Starglow and Stroke for Mac [All Hosts]?
Note: The pictures used are from the Instelation of Shine. The steps remain the same for Starglow and Stroke.
- Once you have downloaded the Trapcode 3D Stroke installer, you will need to de-compress the .zip file.
- After de-compressing, run the Vise installer.
- Click Continue.
- Agree to the License Agreement by clicking Accept.
- Click the Drop Down Menu to choose the correct Trapcode Shine installer.
- Choose the correct installer for your desired host application.
- Click Install to continue.
- You may either install the Trial version or enter your Serial Number to activate your purchased product.
- Installation is complete! Click Quit
- Product Registration automatically opens in web browser.
- Fill out product registration form.
- To open Shine Presets for Final Cut Pro only.
- The Starglow Presets is a FCP project file that must be opened separately each time it would like to be used.
- Once Presets is opened, it can be found next to the Favorites and Effects folder in Final Cut Pro.
Q: I need to download the previous Shine v1, Starglow v1 and 3D Stroke v2 [non-upgrades].
To download Shine v1.0.6, Starglow v1.0.3 and 3D Stroke 2.0.4

These are not upgrade downloads for Shine v1.5, Starglow v1.5 and 3D Stroke 2.5.
Using the product
Q: How do I make the rays from Shine extend beyond the size of my layer?
Shine cannot resize the layer, so you need to make a new comp-sized layer and apply Shine to that instead. There are two ways to do this:
- Pre-compose your layer (using the "Move all attributes..." option) and then apply Shine to that comp instead.
- Apply Shine to a comp-sized adjustment layer above the layer you want "Shined".
Q: What is your render policy? How do I get the render version?
- Install the plug-in the normal way on each machine in the render farm.
- Download and run the Render Farm Registration tool
- Enter your name and key for each product and press "Register"
- With each license are included 1 Full and 5 render-only nodes.
Trapcode Upgrade (Shine 1.5, 3D Stroke 2.5, Starglow 1.5)
Q: How do I run the trial version on Windows? And how do I purchase once I have the trial version?
- Once you have downloaded your Trapcode installer, RUN the .EXE icon
- Click through the Red Giant Software and Trapcode logo screens
- Agree to the License terms
- Once you are at the "Red Giant Registration" screen you may choose to trial the software or use your purchased serial number to activate the product
- You as well can link to the purchase page for your product by hitting the "Purchase" button which will re-direct your browser.
Q: How do I serialize my demo?
Shown in After Effects. Apply your Trapcode Plug-in to a comp and find the OPTIONS button at the top within the Effects Controls
- Once you have pressed the OPTIONS button a dialogue box will appear
Within the dialogue box you may either pruchase the product after Trial-ing it.
Within the dialogue box you can serilaize your product with your purchased serial number.
Q: How do I install Shine, Starglow & 3D Stroke? It doesn't show up in the effects list [Mac only].

- Double click the VISE installer from your dowloaded package
- Click thru the Logo and EULA screens
- Now you are at the NEW MAC multi-host installer
Q: What are the upgrade options and pricing?
The upgrades require that you own a previous version of the product being purchased. There are two upgrade options for existing customers
- Individual Product Upgrades - $49 each
- Shine Upgrade $49
- Starglow Upgrade $49
- 3D Stroke Upgrade $49
- 3S Pack Upgrade (includes: Shine, Starglow, & 3D Stroke Upgrades) $99. If you own all three products you may purchase the discounted 3S Upgrade Pack.
The following customers qualify for the discounted 3S Pack Upgrade:
- You own Trapcode Suite (all versions - 2004, 2005).
- You own 3S Pack.
- You own all three products, purchased separately.
If you own two of the three (i.e Shine and Starglow only), you need to purchase two $49 upgrades for each of the two.
