How does FMP compare to other Film-look software?

To start, Film Magic Pro is not a plug-in like most film-look software packages; instead our collection uses precise color treatments made up of multiple instances of After Effects built-in color adjustments. Film Magic Pro utilizes the powerful built-in architecture of Adobe's award-winning effects software to generate custom color styles. This efficient method drastically improves render times compared with most other film-look packages. This is also very important for Video Professional that utilize render farms because Film Magic Pro doesn't need to be installed on the farm computers. This saves times and guarantees a complete render without lost frames due to mission plug-ins. Similarly projects using Film Magic Pro can be viewed from other machines not running the software without fear of missing plug-ins.

Unlike other plug-ins, Film Magic Pro does not offer tools for de-interlacing footage or performing frame rate conversions to interlaced footage (60i or 50i). With the availability of so many field conversion techniques, Video Copilot wanted to focus more on Color Processing because of the powerful and expressive impact color has on viewers. Video Copilot does recommend Re:Vision Effects FieldsKit, and Re:Vision Effects Twixtor Pro to generate excellent frame rate conversions.

Footage shot using 30P, 24P, or 24Pa doesn't require any special frame-rate conversions offered by other software packages. Don't forget, Film Magic Pro also looks great when used with standard 60i video footage; don't think you need to covert to 24p just because it's the cool thing to do.

Another major benefit is that Film Magic Pro doesn't need to be installed on other computers when opening a project containing the effects. This saves time money, and if you have a large Render Farm, you wont have to install it on a bunch of computers for the render to work.

Why is FMP only compatible with After Effects 6.5 Pro?

Film Magic Pro takes advantage of the new architecture specific to AE 6.5, so earlier versions are not currently supported. However, all things aside, version 6.5 has amazing new features and plug-ins that are worth the upgrade cost without question. Maybe it=92s time to upgrade. You can thank us later Adobe!
