Simple Snow

Instructions:

  1. Create a snowflake in Illustrator or Photoshop and make it tiny (the sample is 10x11) and white, with an alpha channel (Photoshop). Import this into After Effects.
  2. Create a comp any size you want. The sample is 320x240 with a sky blue background.
  3. Drag your snowflake into the comp and turn off the layer so that you can't see your snowflake.
  4. Create a new solid (the sample is 320x240, the size of the comp). Call it snow.
  5. Apply Particle playground to the snow layer. These are the parameters I used (changed from default).
    Cannon
    Position: (160,-120)
    Barrel Radius: -250
    Particles Per Second: 100
    Direction: 180 °
    Velocity: 130
    Color: White

    Layer Map Use Layer: 2. snowflake

    Gravity
    Force: 120
    Direction: 180°

    Keep the rest of the settings as default.
