Softening Harsh Video

Before
After
Have you ever had to work with footage that was lit harshly and not too kind to the actors, shot outside with no reflectors? Could it benefit from some softening? Probably.
You will Need:
- Adobe After Effects any version
- Badly shot footage
Instructions
- Duplicate the footage in your timeline
- Apply the Glow filter to the top layer, vary the amount of glow depending on the shot's focal length. Substitute one of the blur filters for the glow filter - fast blur it about 10 to 20 pixels. You can also use gaussian blur, but fast blur renders quite a bit faster.
- Use transfer modes on the top layer to overlay the images. Add or Overlay may give you the best results.
- Adjust
the opacity of your top layer so that you can see more of your bottom
original layer.
