RE:Vision Effects FAQ

How to transfer floating license server to a new machine

Run the license server removal program on the OLD server (do not do this on the new server or the server won’t be able to run on the new machine!). Download the rvlrmNodeLock program from this page: http://www.revisionfx.com/products/z_floatinglicensing/help/#e_prepare_node_to_float (you are removing a node-locked piece of software, as the server itself is node-locked).

You run the license server removal this way:
rvlrmNodeLock rvlserver
This will make it so the server can’t be run on that machine in the future. Send us the file the program rvlrmNodeLock creates. You may want to make sure the new license server works for you before decommissioning the older machine.

How can I manage or reset my license to move it to a new computer?

You may now create an account with RE:Vision Effects that allows you to view and manage your licenses and activations. To do so, click on the Account tab on the RE:Vision Effects home page, then send your user name to sales@revisionfx.com and they can add your licenses to your account.

How many computers can I run my RE:Vision Effects license on?

One non-floating license can be used on one machine, but it can be deactivated and activated to move to another machine.

RE:Vision Effects: What’s the difference between RE:Vision Effects Pro & Regular plugins?

RE:Vision Effects Twixtor, ReelSmart Motion Blur, and RE:Match offer Regular and Pro versions of the software, so how do you know which version you need? There are two main areas: Host support and features. Let us break it down.

More Host Support in RE:Vision Effects Pro Version

The Pro Versions mainly add OFX support for products like Baselight, Silhouette, and Scratch, but one also adds Avid support, so make sure you understand the system requirements for each version.

More Features in Pro Versions

While the regular version is robust and may work great for the majority of your projects, the Pro version does add a few features.

ReelSmart Motion Blur

The Pro version also includes: RSMB Pro Vectors is a separate effect included with RSMB Pro. It gives users the ability to blur with motion vectors supplied by you… which, most likely, will come from your 3D animation system. This is an older video but it compares it a bit.

ReelSmart Motion Blur Pro has all of the features of the ReelSmart Motion Blur Regular version but also includes these features:

  • Object Separation – Support for foreground and background separation using a specified matte. ReelSmart Motion Blur then uses proprietary filling and tracking techniques when working on the background layer, even when it is obscured by the foreground! (Not available with Catalyst Edit, DaVinci Resolve, Flame, Smoke, Media Composer, Movie Studio, Nucoda, Vegas Pro)
  • 3D Motion Vector Input – Ability to blur with motion vectors supplied by you… which, most likely, will come from your 3D animation system.  (Not available with Catalyst Edit, DaVinci Resolve, Media Composer, Movie Studio, Nucoda, Vegas Pro)
  • RGB+A Tracking – An option that uses the alpha channel to help to track dark images with mattes. This is especially useful for CG, masked, and/or keyed material. (Not available with Media Composer)
  • Track Point Guidance – Up to 12 user-defined points can be specified to help guide RSMB’s motion estimation. By using the tracking points you can explicitly tell RSMB where a pixel moves from one frame to the next in order to guide RSMB’s calculation of motion vectors.  (Not available with Catalyst Edit, DaVinci Resolve, Flame, Smoke, Media Composer, Movie Studio, Nucoda, Vegas Pro)
  • Spline Guidance – When RSMB exhibits tracking problems, you can guide RSMB by simply creating and animating shapes to show where objects are actually moving.  (Not available with Catalyst Edit, DaVinci Resolve, FCPX, Flame, Smoke, Hitfilm, Media Composer, Motion, Movie Studio, Nucoda, Nuke, Premiere Pro, Scratch, Silhouette, Vegas Pro)

RE:Match Pro

RE:Match Pro has all of the features of the RE:Match regular version and then adds the following features:

  • Auto image registration – Matching for stereo pairs takes advantage of internal per-pixel registration using optical flow methods.
  • Occlusions – Stereo pair matching takes into account occlusions between the two views.
  • Frame edge differences – Stereo pair matching takes into account that the two images may not have corresponding details at some of the edges of the frame. (Not available with Scratch)
  • Refine within matte – Stereo matching has controls for making details, such as reflections, lens flares and specular highlights match between the two views. Methods provided to remove or attenuate on-lens artifacts (such as water drops on a lens).
  • No stereo alignment required – You can use at any point of your pipeline. Because RE:Match uses internal pixel registration, stereo matching does not require image alignment prior to use. Visualization modes are provided to guide what RE: Match is doing internally.

Twixtor Pro

Twixtor Pro has all of the features of the Twixtor regular version, plus adds these features:

  • Object Separation – Support for foreground and background separation using a specified matte. Twixtor then tracks each layer separately for improved results. (Not available for Catalyst Edit, Hitfilm, Movie Studio, Natron, Nucoda, Vegas Pro)
  • RGB+A Tracking – An option that uses the alpha channel to help to track of dark images with mattes. This is especially useful for CG, masked and/or keyed material. (Not available for Smoke, Flame)
  • Track Point Guidance – Up to 12 user-defined points can be specified to help guide Twixtor’s motion estimation. By using the tracking points you can explicitly tell Twixtor where a pixel moves from one frame to the next in order to guide Twixtor’s calculation of motion vectors. (Not available for Catalyst Edit, Hitfilm, Movie Studio, Natron, Nucoda, Vegas Pro
  • Spline Guidance – When Twixtor exhibits tracking problems, you can guide Twixtor by simply creating and animating shapes to show Twixtor where objects are actually moving. Interactive feature registration is directed by using the host program’s splines. (Not available with Catalyst Edit, Hitfilm, Movie Studio, Natron, Nucoda, Vegas Pro, FCPX, Nuke, Premiere Pro, Scratch)
  • Motion Vector Import – Give Twixtor motion vectors generated elsewhere (like from a 3D system) to time remap footage, including adding motion-interpolated fields to otherwise progressive material. (Not available with Catalyst Edit, Hitfilm, Movie Studio, Natron, Nucoda, Vegas Pro, FCPX)
  • Motion Vectors Export – Ability to output the motion vectors that Twixtor generates internally. This powerful feature comes with visual debugging modes to more intuitively assess and tune the quality of the motion estimation. The motion vectors can then be used elsewhere in the pipeline. (Not available with Catalyst Edit, Hitfilm, Movie Studio, Natron, Nucoda, Vegas Pro, FCPX)

Silent Installs for RE:Vision Effects Products

The instructions below are for installing RE:Vision Effects products over a network, without having to activate each computer individually.

See the last two items here, https://revisionfx.com/faq/category/install_faqs/

Note: The last one got scrambled with the last update. Please see the text below.

REVisionActivate command-line usage NAME
REVisionActivate.XYZ.exe (Windows)REVisionActivate.XYZ (Mac)REVisionActivate.XYZ (Linux) REVisionActivate below.XYZ: REVisionActivate is timestamped as we fix things, the plug-ins look up the latest one.

Synopsis

-d: deactivate-s: silent /* this option always needed to run in command-line mode */-S: Scrub keys /* remove all */-k: key

WHEREIS

On Windows: C:/Program Files/REVisionEffects/REVisionActivate.exe
On Linux: /usr/local/revision/REVisionActivate
On Mac: /Applications/REVisionEffects/REVisionActivate.app/Contents/MacOS/REVisionActivate

Examples

To remove all keys on one machine: REVisionActivate -s -d -S
* To deactivate a single license: REVisionActivate -s -d -k 1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234 /* your registration code */
* To activate a single license: REVisionActivate -s -k 1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234 /* your registration code */

Permissions

The software we use for activation uses a hardware signature. If some hardware component such as the CPU or Ethernet card changes it might trigger recognition as not the same machine. Scrubbing the keys (-S) should fix that. If you run the option -S, it will remove the keys of your machine. You have to be careful about permissions if you are an Administrator with elevated privileges so a normal user has read permissions.

How To

Windows: A simple way is to type cmd in search, and right-click Run As Administrator. Then drag REVisionActivate exe there and add the proper arguments. You can verify it works by pressing the Activation button in the plug-in or running again REVisionActivate without arguments (in GUI mode).

To pipe to a text file will tell you if there is an error, for example, REVisionActivate -s -k 1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234 > mybad.txt

Mac: remote or open a terminal “sudo /Applications/REVisionEffects/REVisionActivate.app/Contents/MacOS/REVisionActivate -s -k 1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234”

Linux: in a shell sudo /usr/local/revision/REVisionActivate -s -k 1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234

Patch for macOS 10.15 and Over

If you are on macOS Catalina and experiencing an error with the RE:Vision Effects Licensing Tool during activation, you may need this patch.
