Audio Delay plugin You Need!
Sonic Scoop’s writer, producer, and engineer, Jacob Roach runs down a list of his personal top 10 favorite audio delay plug-ins. The article came out last summer and it lists the top 10 Audio delay plug-ins. It’s a great list! Here are a few choice audio delay plug-ins for you.
Winner on the list is Soundtoys EchoBoy, a work horse to say the least!
When SoundToys designed EchoBoy, they said that they were “looking for an echo that was warmer than existing delay plug-ins, yet not as dark as guitar pedal echos. EchoBoy is now one of those ‘must-have’ plug-ins for Pro Tools, and has become a permanent fixture on the aux faders of thousands of top mixers and engineers.”
Timeless wins in the category of The Most Versatile Delays. Roach starts out by saying, “Timeless 2 fits in a unique space because it can be a fairly straightforward plugin. Throw it up, tweak your mix, and the plugin already sounds great. However, like most Fabfilter plugins, there’s a lot going on underneath the hood. To take full control of this plugin, you’ll have to go deep in the trenches of its many settings.”
FabFilter Timeless 2 is not only a perfectly modeled classic tape delay. Its unique high-quality filters and many creative options turn it into the ultimate sound-mangling machine! Create echo, chorus, flanger, phaser, scratch effects and much more.
Timeless 2 is available on its own or in FabFilter Creative Bundle, FabFilter Mixing Bundle, or FabFilter FX Bundle.
DDLY is the runner up in the category The Best “Miscellaneous” Delays. Jacob Roach says, “The real star of the show here, however, is that threshold control. Combining two unique delay tones and accenting only certain parts of the source is something that no other single plugin can really do. The DDLY can create wild effects unique to itself and is certainly worthy of a pickup, even if it’s only used in a few niche cases.”
DDLY Dynamic Delay is a one-of-a-kind effects plug-in that delays the signal differently depending on the character of the sound, without turning your track to aural mud. Adjust the threshold to split your signal based on transients, then send it down two separate analog or granular delay paths.
