Midweek Motivations: SXSW 2020 Film Awards: Title Design Finalists
As you probably know, SXSW 2020 was canceled this year due to COVID-19. You can view all of the entrants at the SXSW Website under Title Design Competition.
Below, videos of some of the finalists. View more of the winners at Art of the Title.
SEE Main Title Sequence from Imaginary Forces
Imaginary Forces won the SXSW 2020 Excellence in Title Design Award for See. It’s both really creepy and engaging. I love the sound design. According to Imaginary Forces, “Imagine a world in the future where humans no longer have eyesight. That is the premise of SEE– and the starting point of our main title design. We worked closely with the show’s blindness consultant to create the aesthetic and sound design behind the sequence. Using ropes, walking canes, and echo-locating clicks for communication, See delves into a dimension beyond sight.”
WHY WE HATE Main Title Sequence by Blue Spill
This sequence received a Special Jury Recognition Award at SXSW 2020 for WHY WE HATE. The transitions are really nice between the original shot and the modified version.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019) main-on-end title sequence
I saw this one in the theater and it’s just fun! This one comes from Alma Mater.
DICHOS Title Sequence by Gwenaëlle Gobé
The “fancifully illustrated title sequence of Latin American expressions for each episode of the web series. Dichos’, which attempts to translate the untranslatable, while educating (and miseducating) audiences about Latin American proverbs.”These are cute.
