News: Trimble Sketchup Perpetual Licensing to be Discontinued November 4th
Trimble, makers of Sketchup, has announced that as of November 4, 2020, Classic Perpetual Licenses and Maintenance & Support renewal plans of Sketchup will no longer be available.

Today, we’re announcing a big change to how you purchase SketchUp products. It’s an important shift in the way we do business that allows us to continue supporting, developing, and making SketchUp even better.
From SketchUp’s earliest days as a start-up, our team has always felt it is important to be generous with our products. No kidding: we wrote that down in the original @Last Software company handbook (along with guidelines for composting and office pets). Bottom line: SketchUp was always meant to be accessible to everyone… and it still is.
That’s why we have made the decision to stop selling our Classic Perpetual Licenses and Maintenance & Support renewal plans after November 4, 2020. This change challenges us to earn your business every single day by constantly improving the tools you need and love throughout each year. Challenge: Accepted. In fact, we’ve been offering subscriptions for about a year, and we’ve proven this method enables us to release new features faster so the suite of SketchUp products improves its vitality every day.
If you own a Classic Perpetual License today, you will be able to use the latest version you own in perpetuity. In addition, if you’d like to update your Classic Perpetual License, you can do that until November 4th, 2020. Please be advised: if you purchase a Classic Perpetual License or renew your Maintenance & Support license prior to November 4, 2020, you will not be able to upgrade and access additional features on that license every year as you have in the past.
Today, and going forward, we are proud to offer our customers a subscription to SketchUp. You can subscribe for a year, skip a year, renew every year — it’s up to you. Whatever you choose, you’ll always have the latest version with the newest features, receive (more) frequent product updates, and get access to technical support. Subscription demands constant improvement of our product and enables us to make SketchUp better for you — faster. To top it off, a subscription to SketchUp means you’ll never have to think about losing access, renewing, or finding that pesky authorization code. Easy peasy. Only the Push/Pull tool is simpler.
Our subscriptions include more features, products, and services than the Classic Perpetual License can offer. Our intention with subscriptions hasn’t changed since we first launched them over a year ago: We are using this opportunity to challenge ourselves to earn your business every single day by constantly improving the tools you need and love throughout each year.
