News: Wirecast Users Streaming to Facebook – Important Notice

telestream wirecast Facebook important notice

Facebook is moving away from RTMP URLs in favor of the more secure and encrypted RTMPS for streaming.  If you use Wirecast for your Facebook live streaming, read on to find out how this might affect you and how to avoid disruption of your live streaming capabilities.

Facebook is deprecating non-secure RTMP URLs in favor of RTMPS. Live video streams on Users, Events, and Groups must be encrypted using the RTMPS data transfer protocol as of May 1, 2019. Live Video streams on Pages and Workplace can use the non-encrypted standard RTMP protocol for now, but Facebook will soon be discontinuing support for RTMP for these streaming locations as well.

We highly encourage you to upgrade to the latest version of Wirecast, which has support for RTMPS for Facebook Live, to avoid disruption of Facebook streaming. (Added bonus: Be sure to use our Paired Encoder feature to save time authenticating your connection!)
