Multi-Physics

Seamless Integration

Tired of using exchange tools? With RealFlow | Maya, connectivity plugins are a thing of the past. Everything is based on an Alembic pipeline directly inside Maya®. Turn objects into obstacles and emitters. Render complex meshes. Create particles from complex splines. Support for nParticles and even MEL included.

Accurate Particle-object Interaction

Objects are essential and we put a strong focus on particle-object interaction. RealFlow | Maya works with all of Maya’s internal object types including NURBS. Use objects as obstacles and containers. Let animated bodies collide with fluids to create impressive splashes. Control the interaction through a wide range of physical properties such as friction, stickiness, or bounciness.

Forces and Falloffs

Forces are a key element in RealFlow |Maya and they are introduced through a wide variety of daemons. Many daemons can be controlled and limited with completely customizable falloffs to shape their behavior and scope. Typical examples include gravity, attraction or wind.

Creative Tools

Creativity and control. Impressive crown splashes, entwined spline emitters, swirling splashes, and thin sheets of fluids moving in slow-motion. All this – and many more – is right at your finger tips with RealFlow | Maya.

Initial States

Initial states can be created from arbitrary simulation frames and used as a starting point for a new simulation pass. This feature does certainly not sound very spectular, but initial states are definitely on of the biggest time savers in RealFlow | Maya.

Skinning Tool

This smart tool transfers position and velocity information from rigid and elastic material particles to objects to make them behave like rigid or elastic bodies. But you can also use liquid, viscous, viscoelastic or granular particles to deform and move objects – and to explore new creative worlds with abstract shapes.

Objects and Textures

Objects and textures work both ways in RealFlow | Maya. You can use the object texture to emit particles, customize properties like its friction or generate new textures where particles leave wet marks on an object’s surface.

MEL and PYTHON

RealFlow commands are exposed for scripting. Query your particles information for unlimited possibilities.

Platform Independent

RealFlow | Maya is available for Autodesk Maya® 2017 and 2018 (Windows, Linux, macOS).

  • Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 6.5 or CentOS 6.5 and 7.2 Linux operating system. (Same requirements as Autodesk Maya)
  • CPU 64-bit Intel® or AMD® multi-core processor
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 100 MB disk space for installation
  • Network adapter and internet access for license activation.
  • RealFlow | Maya supports GPU-based simulations and multi-core/multi-processor systems.

Note:

Since fluid simulations are computationally expensive and allocate large amounts of disk space we recommend Intel® i7 or Xeon systems (or comparable), 16 GB RAM (or more) and a 512 GB storage device.

Fixed bugs

Emitters

  • RFMAYA-479 – Fill emitter does not create any particles when its Surface Offset is 0.0 for objects in default Shell mode.

Parameters

  • RFMAYA-494 – Fluid node particle color ramp is not saved properly when using the Maya Binary format.
  • RFMAYA-495 – Sometimes there is an error when clearing the Scene parameter of RealFlow nodes.

Daemons

  • RFMAYA-463 – Setting keys on crown shape parameters crashes Maya on simulation reset.

Maya UI

  • RFMAYA-310 – Legacy viewport is not supported.
  • RFMAYA-419 – Transformation tools may lead to unexpected results when used in a mode different than Object on RealFlow nodes.
  • RFMAYA-461 – Undo of Manipulator controllers does not work.

Meshes

  • RFMAYA-145 – Motion blur only works for cached meshes yet.

Known bugs

Emitters

  • RFMAYA-391 – Simulating frame by frame always creates new particles, no matter what is the resolution of the fluid.
  • RFMAYA-431 – Maya crashes when using a subdiv animated by vertex for the Object Emitter.

Maya UI

  • RFMAYA-440 – Undoing the deletion of a RealFlow node may not recover the previously existing links.

Meshes

  • RFMAYA-144 – Motion blur for cached meshes looks distorted when the samples are taken from frames with different number of vertices.
  • RFMAYA-313 – Maya 2017 crashes sometimes the first time a Mesher node loads a mesh with more than ~25k triangles.

nParticles

  • RFMAYA-137 – Maya crashes sometimes in Cache Mode with nParticles.
  • RFMAYA-324 – Particles synchronization between Fluid and nParticles is not working properly.

Simulation

  • RFMAYA-420 – Maya crashes sometimes when a Rigid simulation stops if GPU is enabled. Caching the simulation works.
