After burn is a volumetric effects plugin where AfterBurn builds a volumetric effect around each particle center.  This all-in-one solution enables rendering of ultra realistic effects ranging from clouds, pyroclastic smoke, dust, superb explosions effects, liquid metals and various procedurally defined “hard” objects.

Uriel Deveaud from tuts+ provides a nice step by step tutorial utilizing SitniSati AfterBurn and Particle Flow in 3ds Max, and finishing in After Effects to create a realistic puffy cloud effect.

Topics include:

  1. Creating the Wire Structure
  2. Applying AfterBurn Effects
  3. Compositing in Adobe After Effects

Difficulty: Intermediate; Length: Medium; Categories: 3D.

And feel free to adjust the settings, parameters and their values to get different results.
