Purchase PlasmaFX

Description

The PlasmaFX filter suite is a collection of cool effects built with Apple's new Core Image technology. PlasmaFX has 26 plugins that cover a wide range of image processing and synthesis.

By using Core Image, we have dramatically speeded up our plugins up, resulting in real-time or near real-time processing on newer machines. We make full use of multi-core CPUs or the latest OpenGL graphics cards. Because Core Image is built into the operating system, all applications benefit, including apps from Adobe and Apple.

We also take advantage of Apple's new FxPlug architecture for Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 and Motion 2.0. This results in faster and more robust operation than plugins using the old non-Apple architecture. Of course, PlasmaFX also works natively in Adobe After Effects' architecture.

List of Plug-ins

With 26 plugins in the PlasmaFX set, there's a wide variety of effects to choose from. There are imaging processing tools, like glows and film looks, and more advanced image generation using particle systems.

Most filters have many parameters, so you have a great deal of control and can create any number of effects.

Some filters are designed to stand on their own, while others work better when used with the built-in blending modes. There are even a few that are designed to work in conjunction with the other filters. This suite gives you a great deal of flexibility when trying to create the perfect effect.

Duo Toner has a simple filter list, while Old Film has many options, like Dust and Hair particles.

All the filters use Core Image so you get very fast processing. Depending on the filter and the speed of your machine and graphics card, you may see real-time speeds and definitely near real-time in most cases. This is a great benefit for workflow. You no longer have to wait for effects to be rendered to see what you're getting. Since we're MacIntel native, if you've got a quad-core Mac, things will really fly!

As with all of our products, there's no resolution limits. You can render out to mobile phones, 4K film, or anything in between. You can start a project for one size of media and not worry about having to scale it up later for a different size.

Active Solarize filter

This filter uses a Radial Gradient as a color mapping gradient in order to solarize an image. The color map uses the bottom line of pixels in a gradient image to determine how to map the colors, so a radial gradient gives you an interesting customizable solarization effect.

Anarchist Edge filter

Refined and customizable finding edges filter. Uses a combination of blurs and composite modes in order to come up with a distinctive soft edges look.

Image:DAPFXAnarchistEdge.jpg

Bubble Wrap filter

Uses a pointillize stylization effect as a displacement map for the original footage, creating a really cool and unique displacement effect that looks like bubble wrap. It can be shrunk all the way down to look like a piece of glass with a canvas-like texture, or increased in size as high as it will go to produce a really nice static watery displacement.

Cartoon Effects filter

Will generate a painterly toon effect on footage, complete with outlines and color control.

Image:DAPFXCartoonEffects.jpg

Colorized Bloom filter

Uses a 4-color gradient as a color map on original footage, then passes that through a Bloom filter for a colorization glow.

Image:DAPFXColorizedBloom.jpg

Defocus filter

Blurs/defocuses footage, but retains the highlight information. This is pretty much a pseudo-HDR effect. The highlights are preserved by controlling the amount of information gathered by a blurred grayscale Edges pass, Posterizing that and then compositing it on top of the original footage. Leaving the blend mode set to Add is recommended.

Duo Toner filter

Applies a false color effect to the footage; maps seperate colors to the highs and lows of an image to generate tones.

Image:DAPFXDuoToner.jpg

Edge Enhance filter

Runs an Edges pass on footage, removes the rest of the footage from around the Edges via a mask, and then screens it all back onto the original footage.

Image:DAPFXEdgeEnhance.jpg

Edge Rays filter

Applies a Zoom Blur/Lightburst effect to the Edges of footage, and then composites the resulting rays back onto the original footage.

Image:DAPFXEdgeRays.jpg

Explode filter

Generates a flurry of revolving particle lines that explode outwards from a customizable origin. Created for a transitionary effect, and must be placed on footage or a generator that has timecode.

Image:DAPFXExplode.jpg

Expose filter

Diffusion and Exposure control filter to tweak the final luminance of the footage. Can be used to amp up the final gain of footage, or can be used as an effective highlight dampening tool without affecting the entire image.

Image:DAPFXExpose.jpg

Film Bleach Bypass filter

Produces a Bleach Bypass effect on your footage. This effect has been used in many feature films and television shows, and basically destaurates the frame while adding contrast and graininess. The default Brightness and Contrast settings will produce a standard Bleach Bypass process, yet can be tweaked for more original effects.

Film Technicolor 2-Pass filter

Emulates an actual 2-strip technicolor tinting process. Separates the channels of the original footage and93dyes=94 them with the Process Color parameters. Good for old-timey film reproduction.

Image:DAPFXTechnicolor2-Pass.jpg

FilmTechnicolor 3-Pass filter

Emulates the 3-strip technicolor tinting process. Breaks the original image up into channels and color maps their respective dyes onto them, then composites the channels all back together. The registers can also be tweaked to make it seem like the film strips or channels didn't get cemented together properly. For all of the film nerds out there!

Gradient Funhouse filter

Renders a 4-color gradient plus contains distortion effect controls to alter the appearance of the gradient. Best when used in conjunction with the Blend mode pop-up once applied to footage.

Image:DAPFXFunhouse.jpg

Impasto filter

Uses a dynamic height field and shading to produce a grayscale bump-map from the luminance values of the footage. Contains a displacement-mapping feature that will make your footage look as if it has been painted with an impasto technique.

Image:DAPFXImpasto.jpg

Ink on Glass filter

A monochrome color keyer that disintegrates luminance values. The user can choose to render the final footage with an alpha map or against a solid color. The effect produces shadows which, when the thresholds on the disintegration are set properly, can turn portions of footage into what looks like ink dropped onto a plate of glass.

Image:DAPFXInkonGlass.jpg

Light Burst filter

Produces full screen light rays that can be colorized and blended with the original footage.

Image:DAPFXLightBurst.jpg

Old Film filter

Emulates the playback of an old film. Applies a dark and resizable vignette around the footage frame, supplies a sepia tone and a glow function, adds dust and hair to mar the footage, and allows for the jittering of the frame in both th X and Y directions.

Image:DAPFXOldFilm.jpg

Poster Art filter

Posterizes footage and allows you to change the colors of the specific posterization levels. Contains two levels of blurring for specific effects, plus color channel threshold sliders for full color control.

Image:DAPFXPosterArt.jpg

Quicksilver filter

Washes footage in a shiny quicksilver effect. This is a beefed-up Solarize filter that makes the footage look washed in silver. It takes out some of the contrast and limits the value range slightly. Has an effect of posterizing and solarizing with a slight glow bloom added in.

Image:DAPFXQuicksilver.jpg

Swelter filter

Resembles a paint by numbers effect, but also can look like a watery noise filter when the Swelter Amount is set to higher values. This can be composited back onto the original footage in order to provide a rounded noise texture, if desired.

Image:DAPFXSwelter.jpg

Temp Blend filter

Uses a two-color toning process to tint the original footage rather than completely taking over the original colors, and allows the user to blend the result back onto the source footage. Can produce really nice results when appropriate analogous or complementary colors are used.

Image:DAPFXTempBlend.jpg^^

Temperature filter

Provides a warm/cool temperature slider for footage.

Image:DAPFXTemperature.jpg^^

Topology filter

This will generate topographical lines based on the luminance values of footage.

Image:DAPFXTopology.gif

X-Ray filter

Utilizes some of the same inner-workings as Anarchist Edge, but allows for the results to be inverted and set up to be monochrome. The glow has been refined to match an actual X-Ray film projection.
