Description

The VKey Quicktime Component is an easy to use, but powerful and clean vector keyer in the form of a Quicktime component that can be used in Quicktime player, Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, Adobe Premiere, and other tools that support Quicktime effects. The component is available now for Mac OS X, and there is a Windows Plug-in that is now available for evaluation.

A vector keyer is different from a legacy chroma-keyer in that it is not affected by shadows, and it generates a graduated key that preserves fine detail that would be lost with a traditional keyer.

VKey2 was developed with the following goals:

  • produce high quality results from miniDV (NTSC or PAL) video, with support for other formats also
  • simple but powerful controls, for easy setup
  • built in green suppression
  • affordable for hobbyists and professionals alike

What's new in v1.21

Version 1.21 contains a couple of bug fixes. One bug fix is actually a work around for an Apple bug when nesting Motion projects in your FCP timeline and rendering them there. The other bug fix is to the matte softening feature, which never worked right in the FxPlug plug-in. It should now work as a normal gaussian blur on the matte, and it is performed after anti-aliasing and dark edge feathering. There should also be some subtle performance improvements, depending on the options you choose.

We added the dark edge feathering, which is yet another matte control that lets you do additional feathering on edges based on luminance. The idea is that darker edges may need more feathering because they can be difficult to key.

The user interface (UI) was also changed. Some controls were grouped together to show that they are related and to allow them to be hidden when not needed.

The documentation was updated, slightly, but it was not overhauled to include documentation for the new dark edge feature, or to have new screen shots with the current filter UI.
