More information about the PlantCatalog collection

What’s it all about?

With our PlantCatalog designed by our very own botanist and in collaboration with various Botanical Gardens throughout the world – such as Jardín Botánico “La Concepción” de Malaga, the Bedgebury National Pinetum, Forest England, and Viveros Guzmán you’ll receive an ever-growing collection of 3D vegetation species that are both physically and botanically correct.

Our assets ship in HD (high poly-count), LD (smaller poly-count footprint) or RT (ideal for real-time engines)* and are fully textured to meet your projects demands.

Static vegetation models are a thing of the past! Each one of our procedural species has a plant engine that can generate anything from game-ready vegetation to blockbuster Hero trees.

But it doesn’t stop there – there’s a plethora of presets to choose from including age variations. The best part? Everything is procedural, meaning you get access to all the parameters and can modify your asset the way you want!

With new species added every quarter, the PlantCatalog is a must-have!

* Some species may not be available in all 3 quality formats: download the detailed list here.

The latest update adds 10 new species, including two aquatic plants, four palm trees, two poplars and two oak trees.

March 2021

With this launch, e-on Software is moving to a new release schedule. Instead of a larger update every few months, they will release smaller updates more frequently so that new content is delivered faster than before.

This update adds 14 new species, including three broadleaf trees, eight bushes, one groundcover item with an additional high-res branch and one cactus. The hero species is certainly the Northern red oak (Quercus rubra) which includes more than 130 different presets and beautiful fall coloring.

What’s new in PlantCatalog R5

The new plants of this quarter’s PlantCatalog release are amazingly well suited for groundcover and forest work. The Reed canary grass (phalaris arundinacea) looks fantastic in any scene that benefits from ultra-realistic grasswork. It is one of the best species that our internal biologist Frédéric Bec has produced yet, and thanks to its built-in plant engine, you get dozens of grass types within a single species.

Next, we have the Tamarisk thuidium moss (thuidium tamariscinum), which is perfect for forest and woodland sceneries. Again, the amount of versatility and variability built into the species is astounding.

Deer fern (blechnum spicant) will further enrich your groundcover renderings. Indeed, the new coniferous trees will provide just the right amount of shade for the fern and moss to grow. In total, there are 15 new species to explore.

If you are an Enterprise solution customer, head to the software center and download the new plants immediately. If you are under the Creator or Professional plan, you can get under the PlantCatalog subscription plan separately.

Both VUE and PlantFactory now point to a common PlantCatalog directory. You can edit the file path under File – Options in both programs. So, there’s no more need to copy and paste the PlantCatalog plants into two separate directories. Both programs will share the same folder.

Starting with this release, all plants also have built-in color variations for Ecosystems in VUE. Because the variations are included in the plant, it is not necessary to set them up manually in an Ecosystem. Also, perennials now feature a slider and presets that make them grow along a wall or other away obstacles, which simulates natural growth behavior, e.g. also on the edge of cliffs.
