MediaSilo Documentation

Updates for May 2, 2024 – Camera to Cloud with Atomos

Our camera-to-cloud integration with Atomos is now available, so you can automatically upload shots for your remote team to review while still on set. Click here to learn more.

Updates for April 30, 2024

  • When comparing different versions of a file in side-by-side review, you can now view comments from a specific version or all comments from all versions. Click here to learn more about reviewing files with multiple versions.
  • When you export comments as a TXT file, you can once again import the comments into Avid Media Composer as markers.
  • We now support a plain-text preview of HTML, SCC, SRT, and VTT files.
  • If a project has hundreds of users assigned to it, the full list of project team members is now displayed in both the Team tab and the Manage Project Team window.
  • We fixed a bug that prevented some users from deleting folders while in list view.
  • You can once again drag folders into the Sent Links tab while in list view. Click here to learn more about updating Review Links via the Sent Links tab.
  • We fixed a bug that affected first-time users as they accessed MediaSilo using a social-auth option like “Sign in with Apple.” Now, you can finish setting up your new profile whether or not you upload a profile image.
  • Immediately after you turn on MFA for your user profile, you can continue sharing, downloading, and accessing files in Review Mode without needing to refresh the page.
  • In Review Links, we fixed a visual defect that could cause the Clear Range button to overlap with the “Leave a comment” window.
  • When reviewing files, the comments section can now load as many as one thousand comments.
  • If you are not logged in to MediaSilo, attempting to comment on a file gives you the option to log in or to create a user profile for reviewing files. For anyone choosing the second option, we updated the messaging to make it clear you are just creating a reviewer user, not a user account with access to a MediaSilo workspace.

Updates for April 18, 2024

We updated the Profile window that appears when you log in to MediaSilo for the first time. In addition to improving the layout, we added the option to upload your profile photo. Users can still update their profile at any time by clicking the avatar button in the bottom left and selecting “My Profile.”

Updates for April 9, 2024 – User Mentions are Now Available

  • When you comment on a file in Review Mode, you can now mention a workspace user by entering the @ symbol, followed by their name. The user will receive an email notification with a direct link to your comment. Click here to learn more.
  • The ampersand symbol (&) is once again displayed correctly in Presentations.
  • Lastly, we fixed a typo on the Settings page in Administration.

Updates for April 2, 2024

  • In Projects, you now have the option to download a file with its original filename (the name of the file uploaded to MediaSilo) or with its asset title (the title that can be edited in MediaSilo). Administrators can make this option available to their workspace under Administration > Settings > General. Click here to learn more about download options in Projects.
  • We made some formatting changes to the text file or spreadsheet you download whenever you export comments. This way, formatting is consistent among the different file types you can export (.txt, .csv, .xls).

Updates for March 19, 2024 – Side-by-Side Review is now available

  • When reviewing video content, you can now play and compare different versions side by side. Version Comparison is available in Review Links as well as in-project Review Mode. Click here to learn more.
  • On the Settings page in MediaSilo Go (our mobile app for iOS and Android), we added a link to our support request form, so you can quickly get in touch with us when needed.

Updates for March 5, 2024

  • We fixed a visual defect that caused black bars to appear along the top and bottom of the video player in Projects.
  • You can now limit playback to a specific time range whenever you select a range-based comment. Select the “Loop” option to play the time range on a loop, or “Play Once” to stop playback at the end of the range. You can learn more about commenting tools and video player controls here.
  • When you open a direct link to a range-based comment, you can now hit Play to play the video from the start of the corresponding time range. Before, hitting Play would reset the video to the beginning.
  • Finally, we fixed a bug that displayed an incorrect file count in certain Review Link email notifications. Now, if your link contains folders, the email notification says, “[Your Name] has shared files with you.”

Updates for February 20, 2024

  • If you have upload permission but no view permission in a project, a checkmark in the uploads panel now indicates that your upload was completed. Before, a user with this permission set would just see a spinning arrow, even after a file was uploaded successfully.
  • In MediaSilo Go, our mobile app, the Save to Device feature is once again working on Android devices.

Updates for February 13, 2024

  • When reviewing a file, you can now comment on an exact timecode range. Click here to learn about setting a comment’s start and end points, commenting on a single timecode, or leaving a general comment without a timecode.

February 6, 2024

  • You can now open the left drawer from the Projects home page without having to open a project. Just click the arrow in the top left (next to the search bar) to access the drawer, which contains the Project Tree and Sent Links tabs.
  • In MediaSilo Go, our mobile app for iOS and Android, we fixed a visual defect affecting Review Links with multiple files. After you download an image file, its thumbnail image will remain visible, instead of displaying a generic image icon.
  • For Android users, you can once again log in to the mobile app by tapping the Google, Slack, or Microsoft login options. We fixed a bug that only allowed you to log in using your email address.
  • Also for Android users, you can once again tap the three-dots button on a project tile to view more options. Before, this button worked correctly in list view but not grid view.

January 23, 2024

  • You can now create custom watermark templates for images and documents. On the SafeStream page in Administration, click New Template, and then choose Image or Document from the menu. You can add up to two watermarks (name, email address, or custom text of your choosing) and adjust the color and opacity of each one.
  • You can once again download files from the Review Mode page in Projects. To access Review Mode, open a file and click the blue button in the top right.
  • If you try to delete a watermarked project, a message now informs you that watermarking must be turned off before it can be deleted. This message includes a link to the project settings window, where project owners and administrators can turn off watermarking.
  • We fixed a bug that prevented non-administrator users from sharing a project as a Presentation if that project only contains folders at its root level.
  • Lastly, we updated the experience around adding visible video watermarking to a project. In the project settings window, you can choose an existing watermark template, or you can click Add Watermarks to apply custom watermarking without having to create a new template.

January 9, 2024

  • On the Users page in Administration, you can now export a user list that matches the filters on the left side of the page. Just choose your filters, and then click More > Export Users to export a filtered user list.
  • Administrators can now create a custom role that does not include any permissions. Users with this role do not have access to a project’s contents, but they can still receive private Review Links sent to workspace users only.
  • We updated the Share window and the Edit Project window to support accounts that may want image and document watermarking without signing up for video watermarking. These windows will only show the watermarking options applicable to your account.
  • In Administration, the Settings and SafeStream pages now indicate which watermarking features you can add to your account. Click the “Upgrade” button to learn more about any feature.
  • If you use MediaSilo Go on an Android device, we fixed a bug that opened Review Link URLs in your mobile browser instead of the mobile app.

December 14, 2023

  • If you’re an administrator who accesses MediaSilo using API calls instead of our browser or desktop app, making API calls is now logged as a login. This ensures you will not be impacted by a workspace setting that locks out inactive users after a set number of days.
  • We fixed a bug that prevented some users from receiving new-upload notifications via email. As an administrator, you can turn on notifications on the Users page by selecting one or more users and clicking Actions > Manage notifications for users > Enable new upload notifications.

We also made the following updates to MediaSilo Go, our mobile app for iOS and Android:

  • You can once again download watermarked videos for offline viewing.
  • For Android users, the “Save to Device” option on the Downloads page is working once again.
  • We fixed an intermittent bug that could result in unsuccessful downloads of watermarked images and documents.
  • You can now scroll through a watermarked document you downloaded for offline viewing. Before, a bug did not allow you to scroll properly after closing and reopening the document.
  • When you open a Review Link containing a single file within a single folder, you can now view the file successfully. Before, the page would get stuck in a loading state.
