Book preset for Cinema 4D (requires Mograph)

Realbook for Cinema 4D creates a personalized 3D book with all the pages you need. Customization options allow you to adjust the size, the animation, rotate the base, flip through a page one at a time, and much more.

What is Realbook 3?

The Realbook 3 is a preset for Cinema 4D with which you can create your personalized and animatable 3D book in just a few steps.
You can choose the size (including the thickness of the page), the number of pages, you can activate or not the hardcover, choose his thickness and much more.
So you can assign the textures and with a few sliders you can open the book and animate it automatically. You can also choose to manually animate every single page.
Other controls allow you to change the way the page moves, how it is laid when it is closed and open, and how all the pages are distributed over one another.

User data controls

In this preset there are two places where you can make modifications.

If you click on the main Real Book object you can see the first main place where you can make modification on the Attribute Manager.
Here you find the user data tabs.

Dimension Tab

• Main Dimension
  • Book Depth: it is the distance between the first and the last page.
  • Page Height: sets the height of the page
  • Page Width: sets the width of the page
  • Page Thickness: sets the thickness of the page and of the spine that appears when the hardcover is disabled)
• Page Subdivision
  • Width Segments: sets the width segments of the page
  • Height Segments: sets the height segments of the page, spine and headbend
• Spine Subdivision
  • Spine/Headband Segments: sets the width segments of the spine and of the headbend
• Scale The Entire Realbook
  • Scale: scale the entire book with extremely simplicity
  • Change the Number of Pages: click the button to change the number of pages

Control Tab

• Base Control
  • Base Turn 1: rotate the base edge 1 between 0 and 90 sessadecimal degrees
  • Base Turn 2: rotate the base edge 2 between 0 and 90 sessadecimal degrees
  • Bending Base Dimension: sets the average length of radius bend when the page rotates
  • Incremental Bending Base: sets the variation amount of the Bending Base Dimension along the base from the first to the last page
  • Book or Magazine Bend: You can choose the direction of the Bending, the Book mode or the Magazine mode
  • Bending Spine: sets the amount of the spine bending
  • Starting Angle Offset: sets the starting angle of the pages when the book is opened (divergent pages)
• Realistic Distribution Settings (Starting Angle Offset needs to be > 0)
  • Random Inclination: sets the amount of starting angle offset on which to introduce uniform or realistic random distribution
  • Distribution Type: 0 for uniform distribution – 1 or greater for realistic random distribution (high values amplify the differences)
  • Seed: sets the seed of the Realistic Random Distribution System
• Landing Of The Pages
  • Landing Closed: sets the pose position when the page is not turned and BaseTurn1=100% and BaseTurn2=0.
  • Landing Opened: sets the pose position when the page is turned and BaseTurn1=100% and BaseTurn2=0.
• Torsion
  • Torsion Force: sets the maximum force of the second animation bend
  • Torsion Rotation: sets the rotation of the second animation bend
• Torsion Distribution
  • Torsion Force Distribution: the spline defines the variation of Torsion Force during the page rotation
  • Torsion Rotation Distribution: the spline defines the variation of Torsion Rotation during the page rotation

Hardcover Tab

  • Cover Thickness: sets the thickness of the hardcover

  • Cover Bend Dimension: sets the fold size when the book is open

  • Starting position of the pages: sets the starting position of the pages (very useful to avoid intersection of the pages with the hardcover)

Animation Tab

• Enable Automatic Animation: enables the automatic animation mode
• Animation: sets the grow of the total animation
• Overlap: sets the amount of overlap between the animations of consecutive pages
• Enable Add Overlap Variation: enables the add overlap variation
• Add Overlap Variation: the spline defines an additional positive Overlap during the Animation. Be careful because it’s easy to introduce intersection between pages

Manual page controls

• Another Tab for the single page control is visible when you click the Page object that you need to modify.

Page Control

• Turn = turn the page between 0 and 180 sessadecimal degrees.
• Fine Adjustment Landing Closed: sets a cumulative value of Landing Closed
• Fine Adjustment Landing Opened: sets a cumulative value of Landing Opened
• Torsion Force: sets a cumulative value of torsion force for the single page
• Torsion Rotation: sets a cumulative value of torsion rotation for the single page

Installation

The Realbook 3 is a preset that comes as standard .c4d files, which means it can be opened like a regular project file and copied to your own scene. The most convenient method is to install a preset directly in the Content Browser:

1.Open the Content Browser ( Window > Content Browser… )
2.Create a new preset library ( File > New Preset Library… ) and give it a name
3.Drag the .c4d preset file from the product folder into that new preset library
4.Optional: Right-click to define a thumbnail ( Set Preview… ) or to rename the preset.
5.The preset is now saved in the Content Browser. Just drag it into your project from there.

Pay Attention:

• Because of how the multishader works if you choose to have N pages (N even and N odd) you need to put N textures in each multishader material to avoid repetitions.
• The algorithm of the Realistic Random Distribution System of the pages is computationally heavy, so I recommend to disable it while editing other independent parameters or during animation in the Viewport. It is also recommended to keep the number of polygons per page as low as possible and to increase them only before rendering.
