  • Big Screen Effects: Peter Rabbit

    June 6, 2018

Peter Rabbit is a hybrid CG/Live-Action feature from Sony and Animal Logic starring Domhnall Gleeson, as the young Mr. MacGregor, and the voice of James Corden as Peter Rabbit.
This film has it all: the voice talent is phenomenal, the writing is funny, the soundtrack is great, and the CGI is adorable. My daughter was a huge fan of the Beatrix Potter books when she was little so we’ve been longtime fans of Peter Rabbit, and the film did not disappoint. Coco won Best Edited Animated at the American Cinema Editors’ Eddie Awards, and won Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature. Coco; Hèctor the VES Awards.
Coco has been nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song by the 2018 Academy Awards.

    January 3, 2018

Loving Vincent, written and directed by filmmakers by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, is the world’s first fully painted feature film. I saw it over the weekend and it is a gorgeous film which takes place the year after Vincent Van Gogh died and explores what happened to him in his last days. Loving Vincent is up for Best Motion Picture – Animated and also a likely contender for an Oscar nomination, announced later this month.

  • Big Screen Effects: Super Hero Edition with Thor: Ragnarok and Logan

    December 6, 2017

There were several super hero films that came out in 2017 but Logan and Thor: Ragnarok were two of the best. We have some curated content about the making of these visual effects. While I’ll be the first to admit that I rarely see super hero films because I don’t care for them, the visual effects breakdowns and behind the scenes interviews are fascinating.
