Updates: Autodesk Updates Maya, 3ds Max, Flame to 2024.2
Autodesk updated its visual effects and 3D products to version 2024.2, delivering new capabilities and enhancements to workflow.
Autodesk 2024.2 Update – A Quick Summary
- Maya 2024.2 sees significant enhancements to LookdevX, improved core modeling and animation tools, and the introduction of MPM Rubber and component tags in Bifrost.
- 3ds Max 2024.2 introduces a new Conform Modifier enhanced Retopology, and modernized animation and rendering tools.
- Arnold 7.2.4 brings improved Global Light Sampling, better Contour Lines for Toon, and USD improvements.
- Flame 2024.2 artists can create and edit subtitles directly in Timeline and remove the need for external encoding software with new MP4 export capabilities. These enhancements are available as of October 25.

- Enhancements to VDB Meshing and increased support for Normals, Smoothing Groups, and improved Coplanar support
Volume Select Modifier – New options to animate the Smoothing Group or MaterialID value to select different component data at different points in the animation timeline with a 10% performance boost

Motion Command Panel – Updates to the Assign Controller bring improved performance and new UI enhancements such as expanded menus
Transform List Controller – New options for ”Append” and “Assign” make it easier to add a new entry and adjust the assigned controller

- Scenes with multiple mesh lights also have a lower time to the first pixel, up to 20%
