New in Continuum 2019:

What's New

Particle Illusion

It's back! Renowned Particle Illusion (formerly particleIllusion) gets a total overhaul in Continuum 2019. Redesigned from the ground up as a 64-bit application, Particle Illusion gives editors and artists access to an easy-to-use, powerful, high-end particle and motion graphics generator. Instantly create preset-driven photorealistic motion-tracked particle effects for titles, lower thirds, and background graphics.

  • New! Real-time GPU-based Particles Generation: A slick new interface makes generating motion graphics like sparkles, smoke, fireworks, and explosions simple, and alpha blending options make compositing elements into live-action sequences a cinch.
  • New! Work Even Quicker: Lightning fast renders on longer clips and major overall performance improvements make user interactivity even smoother.
  • New! Edit Colors: The Properties Group now lets you easily edit particle colors, color gradients, and alpha gradients to help you create your perfect look.
  • New! Standalone Option: Particle Illusion can be run as a standalone application, but rendering is only available as a plug-in. Artists and Editors can use the standalone to create and save a preset effect outside a host application and then can render that saved effect from inside a host timeline.
  • New! Revamped Emitter Library: The Emitter library now includes a handy search function and has been rewritten, allowing users to access an unlimited number of emitters without needing to reload libraries.

Particle Illusion is available inside Continuum 2019 as a plug-in and as a standalone application. Particle Illusion is also included in the Particles Unit

Mocha Essentials With New Tracking Tools

Users already know and love the Academy Award-winning Mocha planar tracking tools integrated directly inside Continuum. The Continuum 2019 release provides some major updates. Say yes to faster effects masking and rotoscoping.

  • New! Mocha Essentials Workspace: Editors and artists will love the simplified, clean interface that focuses on only the most essential icons and tools. Master tracking quicker.
  • New! Spline Tools: 4 new spline tools make masking and roto work even more simple. Includes a new magnetic spline tool with edge-snapping, a freehand tool, and geometric shapes like ellipse and rectangle.
  • New! Parameter-driven Tracking: Position point parameters in Continuum filters can now be driven directly by Mocha. Track filters like Lens Flare 3D, Rays, and Spotlights.
  • New! High-DPI and Retina Display Support

What’s the difference between Mocha tracking inside Continuum and the full Mocha Pro version? Compare.

Title Studio Updates

Title Studio is a next-gen 2D/3D titling plug-in that can be used as a custom interface plug-in or standalone application. Easily create high-quality professional 2D or 3D titles with custom bevels, fills and styles; import 3D models from Maxon C4D or Adobe Illustrator EPS files; and add OpenGL-accelerated features like 3D extrusions, materials, cameras, lights, and deformers.

  • New! Image Processing Shaders: Quickly add text treatments such as animated glows, blurs, and volumetric lighting to titles directly inside the application in real-time (GPU-accelerated). Shaders can also be applied at texture, shape or scene levels for even greater flexibility.
  • New! 3D Materials: Image processing shaders create new compelling materials previously not possible. New professionally-designed material presets can be found in the Materials Palette.
  • New! 8K or higher resolution support: New preferences allow users to define max texture size and display the size of each layer of text in pixels.
  • New! Grids & Guidelines: Now includes a very useful grid and guides feature. The grid is totally user configurable via the new Grids Palette and users can elect to have objects in the scene snap to the grid or the guides or both.
  • New! Onscreen Text Tool: Users can now select the text tool, click in the comp window and start typing, making the accurate placement and generation of titles faster and easier than ever before.
  • New! Onscreen Text Box: Text objects can now be repositioned and scaled with the click of a mouse. Scale faster and more accurately.
  • New! Preset Library: 150 new professionally-designed presets using the new Image Processing Shaders have been added to get users up-and-running quickly. Simply drag & drop or customize and save your presets in the new library.
  • New! Faster playback: Playback within the Title Studio UI now supports 8K or higher resolutions

Overall Improvements

  • Avid Effects Simplified: The introduction of Mocha-based parameter tracking renders most non-real time blue dot filters unnecessary. Non-real time filters have been moved into an obsolete folder to support the older legacy Continuum tracker.
  • External Broadcast Monitor Support: Applications like Title Studio and Particle Illusion now support external broadcast monitors. Currently only available for Blackmagic Design, AJA coming soon.
  • Deep Color 32-bit Support in Premiere Pro: The 32-bit float color processing option in Continuum, which has always been available in hosts such as After Effects, has been extended to include the Premiere Pro host with deep color support enabling users to generate HDR content without clipping.

Features

MOCHA TRACKING & MASKING

The Academy Award-winning Mocha planar tracking and masking application is integrated inside almost every single filter in Continuum! This empowers editors to do more advanced finishing work right within the filter without having to leave editing project timelines.

Mocha can be used to generate user-defined closed spline shapes, which can be tracked individually or as a group using the Mocha planar tracker. These static or animated mask shapes can then be used to isolate the result of any filter to a specific region in the source shot (e.g., isolating a blur to someone's face). The Mocha tracker can also be used to drive other filter parameters, such as screen/billboard replacement, face tracking, etc.

Fun Fact: Mask and tracking data from any Mocha session can be exported and used in any other Mocha session. This includes sharing tracking mask and tracking data from Mocha Pro and the integrated Mocha in Continuum, or even, Sapphire.

Find out why Continuum customers who get a taste of Mocha lite in Continuum often upgrade to the full version Mocha Pro.

The new filters are VR Reorient, VR Insert, VR Blur, VR Sharpen, and VR Flicker Fixer. Learn more about the Continuum VR Unit.

F Browser

Find your perfect look - quickly and easily!

With the touch of a button, the FX Browser™ can be launched from within each individual Continuum filter providing instant access to that filters library of animated and static presets. All effect presets playback over the filtered source video in your timeline from within the FX Browser interface, which includes a handy trim feature enabling you to preview only a select portion of the filtered source clip.

Additionally, the FX Browser is available as a standalone filter. This makes it simple to browse the entire Continuum effects presets library over the filtered source - a great way for the novice user to quickly familiarize themselves with the huge array of looks and effects that can be achieved with Continuum filters.

Note: The FX Browser is available in all supported hosts with the exception of Apple FCPX and Apple Motion.

If your going to use DaVinci Resolve for more then just Grading then this is the bundle you need. The last thing I wanted was to flip flop in between different programing to get one result. I love not needing to branch out and kill my project and time with transcoding issues. Boris allows you to make is simple or complex without being render heavy on your GPU. I edit anything from talking heads, to high motion racing events and this product has not been a waste of money by any stretch. Highly Recommend this suite.. Best, Matt Color Room Productions LLC

Continuum 2019.0.2 v12.0.2 for Adobe Compatibility Notes:

While in general, your previously saved projects should render identically in the newer version, bug fixes and quality improvements can sometimes change the look of older projects. While every effort is made to ensure project compatibility, the following notable areas may see some change to the look of previously saved projects.

  • Particle Illusion received major performance enhancements (especially for long clips) both when rendering and when working in the PI UI, but these enhancements required changes to the random number generation patterns. Projects created in 12.0.0. will be differently randomized in 12.0.1 (as if the seed had changed), but the overall look and feel should remain the same.
  • Particle Illusion projects saved in Continuum 12.0.1 cannot be opened in Continuum 12.0.0 due to numerous fixes in the project format.
  • Particle Illusion emitter libraries saved in PI3 are fully supported in the new Continuum Particle Illusion (with some exceptions noted below), but PI3 project files are NOT supported in the new Particle Illusion.
  • Older plugin versions of Particle Illusion (V3 or earlier) are completely distinct from the new Continuum Particle Illusion and those older plugin projects will not migrate to this new plugin. However, you should be able to leave those older plugin versions installed on your system alongside the newer Continuum Particle Illusion.
  • Not all features of the older Particle Illusion (V3 or earlier) are fully supported in the initial release of the new Continuum Particle Illusion. This may affect the ability to fully use some older emitter libraries or to perform some actions supported in the older Particle Illusion. Future updates to Continuum Particle Illusion will restore many of these features over time:
    • Editing emitter sprites
    • Rendering/exporting videos from the standalone Particle Illusion UI. Rendering is only supported via the plugin’s host timeline at this point.
    • Saving new or modified emitters back to a library.
    • Updating emitter library thumbnailsom host image data
    • Deflectors, and Forces
    • Record Position feature - i.e. recording mouse movements for conversion to position keyframes.
    • Stage view widgets for Layer and Emitter angle
  • Title Studio - Ambient light fixes may cause saved projects to render brighter in the new version requiring possible tweaks to the light intensity.
  • 3D Objects - Texture scaling improvements may cause some textures to be stretched/sized differently in the new version.
  • OpenGL blur quality enhancements may slightly change perceived blur amount in some filter elements.
  • Prism - Fixes to alpha / premultiplication handling will produce different results in intermediate alpha regions.

Continuum 2019.0.2 v12.0.2 for Adobe - Known Issues and Limitations:

  • mocha PixelChooser - mocha track data is not saved with presets.  To clone mocha tracking data from one effect instance or machine or host to another, you can use the File->Export Project and File->Merge Project options from within the mocha UI or you can copy/paste track data from the clipboard when moving from one mocha UI instance to another. [CO-4250]
  • Mocha PixelChooser splines can render distorted or in the wrong location in filters that use “Avoid Clipping” or similar mechanisms to expand the source layer dimensions.  As a workaround the layer expansion should be done prior to the effect in a precomp. [CO-1298]
  • The Hide Disabled Parameters preference exposes host-side UI refresh issues in AE and Premiere.  We are working with Adobe to resolve these issues.  As a workaround the Hide Disabled Parameters preference can be disabled to revert to “graying out” parameters instead of hiding them. [CO-2296]
  • Title Studio - projects with Cinema 4D files that reference host tracks as textures can cause slow or stalled refreshes in Premiere. [CO-2344]
  • Custom UI views such as the Title Studio UI, FX Browser, License Dialog, or Preferences Dialog don’t fully adapt to High-DPI displays on windows which can cause some fonts to render too small and be difficult to read. [CO-3269]
  • Title Studio - Snap to guide - snapping is offset by 2 pixels. [CO-5071]
  • Particle Illusion - custom GUI scroll bars do not react to Wacom tablet clicks. [CO-5788]

  • Easy-to-use OpenGL-based 2D particle system
  • Template-driven workflow, with over 1500 templates covering classic particle effects plus creative and abstract effects.
  • Plugin integration in latest versions of AE, Premiere, Avid, Resolve, and Vegas hosts.
  • Full Particle Illusion UI available directly from the plugin with custom UI for template selection, parameter adjustment, and keyframing.
  • 64 bit app with support for latest operating systems
  • Modern UI
  • Hi-DPI/Retina monitor support
  • Floating point rendering precision and HDR support
  • Enhanced emitter library search function
  • Reorganized and curated emitter libraries
  • No limit on number of loaded emitter libraries
  • Continuum preset/FX Browser support for reviewing/exchanging/loading PI settings at the PI project level (as opposed to the emitter library template level).  Supports seamless exchange of settings between different hosts and operating systems.
  • Native UI transforms for easy animation via native keyframes or expressions (including accurate combined World+Emitter animation).
  • Mocha Motion Tracker integration for easy tracking of camera or emitter motion (including accurate combined World+Emitter tracking).
  • Mocha PixelChooser integration for easy mask tracking.

Title Studio

  • Image Processing Shaders - Add super fast GPU accelerated effects such as Light Rays, Blur, Glow, Spiral Blur, Prism Blur, Light Sweep, or Gradients directly inside the Title Studio UI for richly featured yet quick rendering text templates. Check out the presets in Title Studio’s Image Processors group for examples of what can be achieved.
  • Grids and Guides - Align text with ease and accuracy using new adjustable grid and guide overlays.
  • 8K+ support - All 3D Objects filters now support resolutions up to 8K by default with the option to go even higher on capable GPUs.
  • On-Screen Text Tool - Edit text directly in the Composition pane of the Title Studio UI by selecting the Text Tool “T” interactor.
  • On-Screen Text Box - Adjust text position and scale directly on screen via the new on-screen text box. This eliminates the need to use the control panel for these adjustments and makes tweaking text position and scaling faster and more accurate.
  • Faster playback - Playback of timelines inside the Title Studio UI are now much faster.
  • Improved Material Style Pallet - Improved browsing plus 400+ new/improved material styles.
  • New Custom Textures - 160+ new/improved custom textures.

  • Hundreds of new presets

Mocha

  • New Parameter-driven Mocha Motion Tracker Module - You can now use the power of Mocha’s planar tracking engine to drive point picker parameters directly within Continuum. There are now two ways to launch Mocha in Continuum filters. If you use the Mocha / Mask Track button in the PixelChooser you will find the same masking integration you are familiar with from previous versions of Continuum. But if you use the Mocha Motion Tracker button inside the “Motion Tracker / Mocha” group you will get a view optimized for extracting geometric data such as position as opposed to masks. This allows you to drive point locations such as lens flares or particle emitters powered by the same Mocha planar tracking engine under the hood.
  • Mocha Essentials UI - Mocha now offers a set of UI workspace options to let you choose the UI experience that best suits the task at hand. It opens up by default in the new Essentials mode which presents a simpler UI layout - perfect for standard tracking tasks. The original Mocha UI with all the bells and whistles is still available by choosing the Classic workspace from the menu on the top along with Roto and Big Picture workspaces.
  • Mocha Magnetic and Freehand Drawing Tools - New Magnetic spline tools will automatically snap to contours in the image making it vastly quicker to roto complex objects. The new Freehand drawing tools also allow freehand tracing of masks for quick loose masking.
  • Mocha Primitive Shape Tools - New Circular and Rectangular tools for simple creation of primitive shape masks.
  • Mocha UI Enhancements - Full support for High DPI monitors on windows and improved Retina support on Mac along with numerous additional UI enhancements.
