After Effects: Large Scale Explosions in AE
The first tutorial, “Creating Mattes in After Effects”, demonstrates how to create and add mattes to make the explosions erupt from the other side of a building. The second tutorial, “Compositing Large Scale Explosions”, uses the mattes created in the first tutorial to layer stock explosion footage in a scene and the how to blend it against a bright sky. The backplate used in the tutorials can be downloaded from ActionVFX, but sadly no actual explosion footage, if you want to follow along.
